Think it's the other way around mate. Donald and Methven have no say on the appointment (or the day to day running of the club) but Keane knows them from previous attempts to bring him back and knows they are chancers. He wants assurances that they won't be involved Even if Donald and Methven wanted to veto the appointment the can't. Neither of them are on the board and KLD has the final vote
I've been on the fence about Keane, but after some thinking I've come around to the idea of him returning. The main reason behind this is Dave Jones, if indeed it is Jones that has engineered the return. Jones has worked closely with Keane for a number of years now and no doubt has a relationship with him when the cameras stop rolling. I'm sure they will have spoke in depth numerous times about the game; tactics, philosophies etc and Jones hasn't got to where he is now by not knowing what he's talking about as well. If Keane has done enough to impress one of Sky Sports main men in football and in turn KLD, who has been around football his whole life and again, knows his onions, then f**k it, I'm in! We have a vast wealth of football knowledge on our board now (add MLD to that as well) and if those people are leaning into Keane then we have to trust in them. I mean, it's not like we're owned by a bunch of murderers and a bong-eyed woman who haven't got the first idea about football is it... Then, I'd be concerned
Mind you, with my limited knowledge of this,I'm struggling to see how this can be an issue. The chancers are minority, passive shareholders who are not on the Board and who have no role in the running of the club. They exist in our world by virtue of some kind of deal done with KLD at the time of his buyout,to which we're not privy. I would have thought it would have taken less than a minute for KLD to assure Roy that these two will not have any impact on his ability to perform his role at the club, and the whole thing can be dismissed. Am I missing something?
Maybe and it just a maybe. Didn't someone mention on here some time ago that KLD wanted those two to foot the bill in certain areas as they were owners to a degree? So if KLD is wanting RK and he is happy to pay his portion but could the other two be kicking up a fuss as they'd like a cheaper alternative? Probably nothing but just a thought.
as I understand it, he being the majority shareholder has the say, they would then need to match their percentages of the cost, or dilute their shares if they don't No expert but I'm sure it is along those lines
My two penneth for what it’s worth: I remember Roy Keane mk1 and he was exactly what this club needed at the time. He dragged us up off the floor and made the whole place step up in professionalism and performance. I’ve done a lot of reading and watching of interviews over the last few days as my initial thoughts were that this would either be fantastic or an absolute car crash. However, one thing sticks in my head. Someone wrote about not getting bogged down with the cartoon villain he’s made out to be. Of course he’s serious about his profession. He expects everyone else to take it seriously too and why shouldn’t he. He demands players give everything they have and then some more. But there’s a different side. He’s a family man, players have spoke of his support where he tells them family comes first. Players have spoke about him making them feel they could achieve anything. He’s an old fashioned boss. Give him everything and he will look after you. Give him 50% and he’ll have no time for you and he won’t have any qualms about telling you. I don’t see any issues other than for players who want an easy life. We all should demand the best from our team. Once again, I think he’s exactly what we need right now!
Haway lads I am off work today would be lovely to see Royston smiling with a scarf to boost the entire club and city again. Hoping @Wheatsheaf @Magnus and @Prehab26 show us the good news soon.
Disagree personally. If it takes a bit longer to “get it right” then so be it. Rather than announcing the person because it’s been done quickly.
Just due diligence. We don't know how long that conversation was, maybe Roy wants it in his contract that he can terminate his contract if there is interference etc.... Am confident it's nothing to worry about
I've been very opposed, and still am to a certain extent, as I think that there are much better candidates out there from a technical point of view, but you make an excellent point in your last paragraph. The people involved with the club now do know what they are talking about. Clearly the wave of excitement that bringing Keane back is generating is huge. This cult of personality might well be enough to inspire us to promotion (especially after the good transfer window we've had) and it might even be enough to drive us out of the Championship. Eventually though, the weight of his name won't be enough, and someone will have to do some coaching. It will be up to Keane to prove that he can do that. Everyone says he's changed and, if he has, this could be the perfect appointment, combining profile with ability. In that way, its not that much different to appointing someone like John Terry. So, I suppose, we ride the tidal wave of Keane and see where we wash up.
“One source close to the club” means “someone wearing a Sunderland shirt in the city” daily mail classic!!
Sometimes you just need to battle through games and we are the equivalent of a dude with a yellow belt in karate fighting a street fighter. Tactics, patience and sticking to the rules only get you so far. Sometimes you need more passion, desire and a never say die attitude and we have lacked that in a league that thrives on it. Keane is that
