You must be able to see his point though? we wouldn’t have been happy at the start of the season with such an appointment so why would we be now. This isn’t a place where you can learn the trade especially not in the position we find ourselves.
I've been going a long time. Since the sixties. I haven't counted, as my abacus is at work and I'm at home, but I'd imagine we've had north of forty managers in that time all told, based on what I'd loosely reckoned a few years ago when it was well into the thirties. Mental man. I have no idea what will happen here. Maybe they'll go for a young bloke to mould him to their way. Maybe that will work too. I'm the worst to ask really; I even thought mackemenemy was a good pick! But one thing I'm sure of is that you need to be a big character to work and do well here. That doesn't necessarily mean a " big name" in management terms. Reidy was hardly that, but he was certainly big enough to do the job. This requirement doesn't have to exclude a younger bloke either, but he would have to satisfy it IMO. Whether or not they are really talking to Keane, we know he has the character for the job, and is hardly someone who has turned his back on the game. And, as when he was first appointed, the one definite reason to be encouraged was that you knew back then that he wouldnt have turned up to just mess about. He'd have stayed where he was. Somehow I can't see this at all, but I'd be a long way from upset if it did. Sport, like life, sometimes needs a blast of energy.
No idea what that's supposed to mean (comes across as some inside joke?) - however I think that to say that it would be downright ludicrous to appoint someone with no real managerial experience to speak of - and no real coaching experience outside a bit of a joke league on the other side of the world - is a "realists" view, yes.
I always thought Coleman, got a raw deal, as I reckon if he had been funded to bring in a keeper and striker as he was begging for... we might not have been relegated from the championship. Short then wrote off £100m to give our former owner a debt free club... ..
I said earlier they may be tempted by a wild card, like Keane (or Henry was one I mentioned). I wouldnt be tempted by him personally, not my idea of a forward thinking manager. You just have to listen to him on tv, he is a parody of himself at times. His disdain for some footballers is worrying. Seems to have forgotten all of his own shortcomings. The wildcard suggestion would be sensible if they think someone can generate enough momentum to shove us over the line, but it would also suggest a level of desperation that would make me wonder just how much we need promotion. At the first sign of being blown off course we have hit the panic button, at least that would be my fear. I can really get behind some of the suggestions on this threas, like Edwards, Manning and Kisnorbo. I cant get behind Keane as an idea, but obviously as a supporter I will support him and his team if he is appointed cross everything I am wrong. He does have a track record of walking away from things, so it may not last. Just hope we dont miss out on the next bright thing in a desperate gamble on the next 17 games.
well @The realist ...i took my time to offer you reasons that we can look forward with the club now and you do not even attempt a retort despite your constant ramblings about how the club is no further forward, of course, if your sole basis is league position then fair enough but there are far more factors than just that, important as it may be. i have noticed you did reply to at least one lad with your 'usual banter' so you basically ignored my polite reply to your earlier post which suggests to me that you do not want a discussion, you have no actual points to make, you are simply looking to cause an argument and be as disruptive as you can...i have never called for any poster to be banned or warned but i am damn close with yourself, while the majority have accepted where we are but are looking at the wider picture and taking the positives alongside any negatives you simply refuse to be any other than completely negative.
I'm coming round to it. In our system - the Head Coach's role should purely be about results. Speakman is development. Speakman is recruitment. Speakman gets the players and gives them to the coach and tells them to make it happen. We need a coach who can get the best out of the players recruited. If that's Roy Keane then tremendous.
