I wouldn’t be surprised if his replacement is someone from abroad that we know little to nothing about. I don’t think the likes of Warnock and Keane would work in this setup at all.
Good sides attack as a team and defend as a team. Too many times you see our attacking players just wandering about not closing down and not tracking back until they realise an opponent is running away from them, by which time its too late. We have the players to create chances or open up teams but that's only part of the game. We have to strike a balance between attack and defence. I'm not sure that LJ can coach that.
Like it or not, the fact is now is not the time to change manager. If we were in danger of relegation then it is absolutely right to change with a firefighter type of manager to keep us up. As things stand we are still in the mix for automatic or play offs. A new manager would have to assess the squad, then implement his own playing style and that takes time. Meanwhile we may lose any momentum we may have built. At the end of season is a better time to look at the options in my opinion.
The style of play won't be changing though mate. The next head coach will fit the way Speakman and KLD want the team to play.
That’s why we have the set up we have in place. It’s supposed to provide fluidity where we can replace a head coach who has a similar philosophy without the need for an overhaul of the squad.
Play offs are not guaranteed though. We are as high as we are because of our home form. A 6 goal abject surrender coupled with a ploughed field pitch. . .
The whole point of the structure that the club has set up is that managers come in to suit the playing style of the club and the players here to play that style. There shouldn’t be the need for assessing players and implementing their own playing style. The whole point is that wholesale changes are no longer needed. Just the right bloke in charge of it.
Agree the style will not change, but coaching the players to get into the positions the manager wants,in the way the manager wants the team as a whole to work will inevitably create a degree of disruption which we could do without at this time. Having said that, a new man might prove to be a master stroke. It's a gamble either way isn't it.
It certainly is a gamble and thats what Speakman and KLD have to decide. I think they will leave it to the end of the season myself. Best start looking at hotels for Wembley
There will be a kickback from yesterdays defeat. A heavy defeat will cause problems in the dressing room.
Anyway, back to transfers...... Owt happening with Defoe? O'Brien out? Any more news from the lads that get any info?
Or, on the other hand, we continue with a manager who can't set us up defensively and constantly chops and changes formation, style of play and that continues to create a degree of disruption. Just playing Devil's Advocate...
Can't argue with any of the responses I've had, all are valid arguments, he certainly divides opinions on a game by game basis. We are either almost unplayable or we don't turn up to play at all, it's infuriating for all of us. It's a conundrum that KLD and Speakman are going to have to address at some point one way or the other and I don't envy then.
Probably blind optimism but got a good feeling about tomorrow, hopefully get the midfield general we’re craving and get abit bastard about us going forward, Defoe would be nice too, Haway the lads!
I thought the point of the new setup was that we could go and get a new head coach which wouldn’t disrupt the plan too much? Am hoping the DOF would always have a shortlist of managers ready to approach even if we were doing well
I'd have hoped for something along the lines of 'andvaced talks/almost done' as opposed to a 'renewed search', it's the last day tomorrow
