Welcome Nile and good luck at Charlton. If he’s good enough for Chris Powell that’s fine by me, BUT it also worries me a bit. We still don’t seem to be bringing in the real quality we need to go on and compete for promotion. Should we really be asking an 18 year old who has hardly played any senior football to come in and improve our team from crap to promotion contenders. Not for me. I wish him well but sorry, he won’t be the answer.

Charlton are delighted to have secured the loan signing of England youth international Nile John from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season.

The talented centre midfielder becomes the Addicks' third signing of the January transfer window after the arrivals of Chuks Aneke and Juan Castillo.

The 18-year-old is highly rated at Spurs and comes to the Addicks with the endorsement of former Charlton Manager, Chris Powell, who was at the training ground with John for his arrival to ensure a smooth settling in process for the youngster.

John explained he was looking forward to playing at The Valley: "I'm over the moon, I’m really looking forward to it. I’m really excited to get out there and play for the fans and play for the badge.

“Chris Powell is someone who I confide in – this connection with Charlton that he’s had and the history and how the fans have been, how the whole club is as a unit, allowed me to feel more welcomed. I’m really grateful for Chris that we’ve got this connection, this link together.”

Johnnie Jackson has aided the development of international midfielders Conor Gallagher, Josh Cullen, Joe Aribo and Krystian Bielik, during his coaching career, and is looking forward to working with John. He said: “He is really excited to get going and we are excited to have him. We have seen him play and done our homework on him and for me personally having a relationship with Chris Powell, who is at Spurs now, I could tap into him and speak to him about the lad and just get a little bit more insight on him. Powelly was very complimentary of the boy both as a lad and as a player and said he will definitely come in and help us.”

Owner, Thomas Sandgaard, said: “We have been really impressed with what we have seen while monitoring Nile. He is young, talented, energetic, creative and possesses a lot of attacking quality. I am looking forward to watching him playing for Charlton.”

John, who joined Tottenham aged seven, has represented England at youth levels from U15s through to U19s. He made his professional debut in a Europa League game against Wolfsberg last season and has played twice this year in Tottenham’s Europa Conference League campaign.

We've pulled out of taking Marcus Browne, who hasn't played for a year since damaging his ACL a year ago. That's a relief.

leaves us short up front (story of the season) but I really didn't like the sound of refurbishing another injured player. And I'm guessing the medical didn't go too well if he's not coming.

    Hope this isn't so <wah>
We can't hold onto a decent young player for five minutes.

no, it appears not. he'd go there, be loaned out 4 or 5 times, then sold on for profit.

time for sandgaard to show if he actually has the funds to run us; and say no.

It would be typical Chelsea. I really really hate them.

The problem is that Chelsea can offer wages we can only dream of, without breaking sweat. If we match it (let's say a daft 15,000 a week) Stockley and several others are going to get the hump. Meanwhile, Burstow is looking at the promised land, and thinking it's time to move to the Bridge.

Frankly, he's too young, and he could do with a bit more progression here, but as a struggling L1 club, the attraction is probably minimal. He isn't ready for even the Championship right now, but I bet his bank manager and agent are.

I was told that when they took Kasey Palmer (after he played a blinder against them in the Youth Cup) for £200,000 they offered his Dad a job at Chelsea as part of the inducement.

Sandgaard will be more pi55ed off than anyone if this happens. His blueprint for success centres around the success of the Academy, both in the contribution to the first team, and where necessary, getting a proper price which reflects their value.

No Lardy not quite but my piss may become a little acidic - we have a hard time as Charlton supporters and just when you a get a little lift ( Burstow ) something will come along and shoot you down , I know it must be hard financing a league 1 club but if we have to sell a promising youngster we must really cash in to improve the club/squad and not just provide funds to exist

I think Sandgaard was probably calculating we'd be selling youngsters. The problem is Burstow is an emerging talent, and while he may be projected to be a star of the future, he still gets bullied by league 1 defenders, so while Chelsea might offer a nice 10k weekly wage packet to get him keen to go, they may not feel we need to be repaid too much. It's a real bitch ,but sadly, as many of our fans are less than happy about meeting Fleetwood, Accrington and Crewe again next season, Burstow may feel the same way.

    What a bummer.

The first time this century that we spent time down in the 3rd tier I don't remember it feeling as miserable as this.
Parky and Powell... those seemed to be much happier times, even though we were gutted after the 2008-09 shocker.

Have I just got old and poorly, or were they really more fulfilling times?

Roland still owns all the assets, Sandgaard is putting his money in with no guarantee of getting any of it back, while the Belgian collects his rent money. He's had chances to sell up but won't, and we're blaming Sandgaard?
