Back page of a rag: TOTTENHAM’S swoop for Porto ace Luis Diaz is stuck in limbo due to a furious agents’ storm. The clubs have agreed the transfer of the Colombian winger for £40million plus £8m in add-ons. But the star’s two representatives — who are based in Europe and South America — are refusing to sign off the deal because of the way super-agent Jorge Mendes has become embroiled in the move. Diaz’s advisors are adamant the deal will not be completed if Mendes plays any part in their player’s affairs. Without their approval, the switch cannot be completed. Tottenham are desperate to make Diaz, 25, their first signing of the transfer window
Yeah speculation and how slow transfers in and out are this window. These forums would be very quiet if we couldn’t speculate though
This was always on the cards, Liverpools interest in the player was widely reported though they were originally expected to move for him in the summer. Unfortunately at the moment any player given the choice of Liverpool or Spurs is likely to choose Liverpool.
We don’t show a player that we really want him do we? Everything is a bit meh, a bit ‘well if we can we will’ otherwise ‘oh well’ I would snub Spurs too
Its not just that though is it, Liverpool are still in the Champions league and will be again next season. They have a recent pedigree of winning trophies and being competitive we don't, they have stable base and are a well run club. At the moment we don't appear to offer any of these things.
Barcelona are buying a player we wanted with the money we gave them but we wanted him to replace the player we brought off of them ? Did I get that right ?
Then we should pack our bags and leave the game for good because we don’t have what the other big clubs have when it comes to winning things. however I could be wrong but from the outset it looks like whilst we are/were haggling over the odd mill in true Levy style, someone else has come and nabbed the player. 2 days ago there was only us and negotiations…but now Liverpool have barged back in? Good job he wasnt having a medical at our place before they barged in…now that would be embarassing.
Its very easy to blame Levy for this again, but it had been reported last night that we had met the asking price, but it seems likely to me that his agent aware of Liverpools interest may have been in contact stating that we were close to reaching agreement so if they want him they will have to move now and they have. If that is the case and (this is pure speculation on my part), then we were always unlikely to be able to complete the deal.
from what I gather the asking price was 60 mill…his release clause was 80. we were stuck on 10 mill disparity which was reported as being 4 mill last night. It wouldn’t be the first time someone else has noticed that paying that few mill more will get it sealed and stamped for absolute quality. Remember exactly the same situation with Suarez where Levy was choking on 1 million and we lost a game changer. I’m afraid unlike what seems like the majority of the Spurs faithful, I’m not prepared to give Levy any benefits of the doubt…that stopped in 2017.
