About to dig into the compilation nonsense but this is pretty good. Against some decent competition too. He’s very much a 10 in the way we play. Occupies wide areas when tracking back in order to press opposition players onto the touchline, then cuts inside to a more central position when attacking the box. He’s not an overly aggressive dribbler but will take on players if there’s not a more logical option to retain the ball. Can we have him please? I like this one. please log in to view this image
I know it is the nature of most Saints fans to be pessimistic but there are some proper wackadoodles on Saintsweb They seem to be taking the Twitter tantrums of Chelsea fans really seriously and believe we are “tapping up” Broja and at risk of being reported by Chelsea and upsetting them to the extent that they don’t deal with us again. And they are still saying this right as the story came out today about Tino Anjorin including that his father/agent was at our training ground - and posted a picture of it on social media - so it must have been approved One is even saying they think Chelsea can report us for tapping up and use it as justification to cancel the Broja loan (and presumably then sell him to Newcastle) I despair at people sometimes. I’m a pretty negative person but that is really going a distance with it …
This pattern of buying players with the same name must stop! Adams, Adam Armstrong, Armstrong and now 2 Tinos. only kidding, sounds like a cracking player.
Imagine the scenes if we secure a double deal with Chelsea on / prior to deadline day for the permanent transfer of both. Seems immensely unlikely but it is fun to speculate

Wonder how much they paid for him. He’s been bang average for ages but he can fill lots of squad positions I guess
According to the Telegraph we were looking into the permanent signing of McAtee from Man City but they don’t want to sanction it because they have high hopes for him Seems like we are looking to avoid more loans with no option at the end. Not that we seemingly had a choice with Broja McAtee will only have one year left on his contract in the summer. If he chooses not to extend we might be able to do a Tino style deal (if we get this other one I’m going to have to learn how to spell the second name) with a buy back Or maybe this new deal is the alternative ? Not sure we’d get both unless we were moving on two (Walcott , Djenepo and maybe Ely given contract situations. But we will struggle to shift Walcott for starters)
I’d be pretty surprised if they let us take him. He’s really quite good and at City the pathway is different. Foden took seemingly ages to get trusted but they had a plan, were patient and managed to build him into a really key player. Chelsea chop and change a lot so it’s harder to have that long term growth. There are less examples of those planned breakthroughs and more examples of players like Loftus-Cheek or Baker. I’d love it if it came off though. Club England U21s. Let’s do it.
Would be a good time to get him as I have seen reports that City are trying to get him to sign a new contract.
I can see this pattern of deal really accelerating in the summer. Bottom half and mid table clubs have been priced out of the best academy players so now the opportunity is in the pathways. We did well to get deals done last summer but the rest will be moving to get in on the action as well so expect there will be half a dozen clubs in for McAtee in the summer at least.
Foden is one example. And the only one. They also had Sancho who they lost. So in terms of high profile, successful young players it is basically 1 for 1. City also signed a 100m player that they didn’t need in McAtee’s (and Foden’s) position Now maybe something will click into place with Grealish and he will take off. Granted he doesn’t need to and they are still cantering to the league Equally City are a bit behind Chelsea and maybe several will come through in the next few years. Isn’t Palmer the other one ?
City want him to sign a new contract as he has 18 months left. He probably will sign one but you never know
How successful other clubs are will depend on what terms and buy backs are offered. I am sure I heard we only beat Brighton to Tino because they refused a buyback. Perhaps they will change that stance. But sides like Everton, Villa and Newcastle are far too arrogant for that
