Not at all surprised, he’s quality. Walks into most championship sides.

We'd have to be mad to sell Stewart and we don't appear to be, so I'm not worried. He'll be happy to stick around in the long term when we go up.

Can see another striker coming in totally out of the blue, Club no longer plays the media games and I honestly think if Defoe was signing it would have been done by now. Hopefully we are working on other targets, too much time wasted on Defoe.

Wouldn't be surprised if this slips passed the transfer window. He's a free agent.

    Totally agree mate.

Let the supporters think about Defoe while the recruitment team is concentrating on other players.

The club could've made the situation clear, if they had no intention of signing him ...

... but I suppose 'pretending to sign him' would help negotiate a better deal with another striker.

I agree, it's time to move on from this Defoe malarkey.

If he signs, good, if he doesn't, then so be it.

A lot of championship clubs are on their arse financially by all accounts. I would be surprised if many could stump up the fee it would take. I dont see him going to the championship at this stage.

In many ways if we go up this season we will be in a hell of a position in the championship. A few clubs are looking at points deductions next year in that league. Many others will be cutting costs to avoid it the season after. We will be one of the most attractive propositions in that league and we already seem to be in the good books of some big prem clubs. Might sound far fetched but if we do go up we might just fly straight through that league. I think the club will know this and Stewart would be mad to go now. If we dont go up he will still be hot property in the summer.

The lad has become the first name on the team sheet and is our most important player.

Quite an achievement having replaced a 30 goal striker and losing McGeady, etc.

He won't leave this window, or the next if we go up.

    I'm confused.

My source (agent) adamant Defoe is a no still. Reason - doesn't fit the profile age/injuries/playing time/wages etc.

However, club source saying things progressing with Defoe and no decision yet.

However, is the club trying to do deals quietly while keeping the fans onside with the Defoe snippets of information.

I don't have an answer with what will happen. I would of expected more news and information leaking though. All quiet.

The more it goes on mate may lead to more of a coach and player role? Agents view would make sense to me, I have the same fears. If the club are keen then you could imagine a 6 month deal is too short term for them and how they think. Just guessing...

He has certainly become central to how we play. If he is not there will require a revamp of our style, and no coach in the world can do that. Oddly I think he is currently about 70% of what he can be. Still much to learn and in 2 years could be a frightening player, but he needs the right setup and coaches. I think he has that here, and I hope he knows it. He seems very grounded, and sure I read somewhere his Dad was key to his career. I reckon he knows where his best interests lie, hopefully.

I’d be astonished if we let Stewart go this month.

Any clubs asking should be promptly told where to go.
