Its a fact that some of those less prosperous parts of the country have already missed out on funds allocated instead to areas that are more prosperous.

Researchers at the Centre for Inequality and Levelling Up (CEILUP), based at the University of West London, found that 61% of the most deprived areas in England have not been allocated any funding from the £4.8bn Levelling Up Fund (LUF). The allocations, made in October 2021, were intended to provide for infrastructure investment in deprived areas. The researchers found that one-third of LUF funding was allocated to areas among the 70% least deprived, as was 71% of the £221m UK Community Renewal Fund. But the town in the Chancellor’s constituency, overlooked by a Norman castle described by English Heritage as having been built to “subdue the unruly North”, has found itself in the top bracket for a share of Mr Sunak’s £4.8bn pot of cash. Despite many many more deprived areas recieving less or infact no funds. Levelling up
Sky reported at Xmas that 2/3rds of the first round of levelling up payments went to the most deprived 25% of areas in England.
