Great writer and the longevity he had in a profession where tastes and the definition of what's funny changes every generation is remarkable. A very funny man. RIP.

How much stuff he had a part in writing must people who watched TV in the 1960-s, 1970s and 1980s especially have heard without necessarily knowing it? Interesting bloke to listen to on the art of comedy writing. His Comedy Clips series on comedians gave some great insights into them.
RIP Barry Cryer. Cryer, the master of the comedy sketch and the instant one-liner, was once asked by the Yorkshire Post for his favourite joke. He recalled one he had told in a student revue in 1955. "A man drives down a country lane and runs over a cockerel. He knocks at a nearby farmhouse door and a woman answers. "'I appear to have killed your cockerel,' he says. 'I'd like to replace it.'
