Obviously I have no intel but I can envisage a scenario on 1st of February we announce that we have come to mutual terms on the release of McGeady and he goes and signs up in the Irish League or MLS or something

No inside info here, but don't think that's a crazy suggestion.

Amazing how good Josh Hawkes is looking at twitter. Must be the next super Kev. Some tweets slating the club for selling him.

I truly have zero idea if he’s good enough. None at all. If he was, surely someone higher up than tranmere would’ve signed him?

We have to, and are, aiming for the next level up. Younger, Hawkes and probably Diamond are not championship level. We are signing players from championship and premiership squads. ****ing promising young players as well.

some fans will twist on 21.

I can guarantee that the ones complaining have never seen him play more than a few times.

Is today the day we see Defoe sign?

Would be great for the younger lads to learn from and even at 39 I still think he would score a few for us.

I would still like to see a no nonsense, no frills cm, does the dirty jobs come in as competion for Evans, but am I being greedy?

The club have had adequate time and opportunity to state that they aren't interested in signing Defoe.

There's still plenty of other business to conclude and, if that's the case, the speculation would be an unnecessary distraction.

I've had a few messages, and pms from people, to suggest that both parties are interested in a deal.

'The details aren't yet sorted but Johnson isn't against it and, if Defoe came, there'd be another player leaving.'

That's all I've been told but I've had nothing direct myself, Hume was the last player/staff I had a link to and he's cleared off <doh>

  10. It seems to me as though we will still need 3 more players, then with the ability to move 2 out. I think we need a left back, a defensive midfielder and cover for LND up front.
If those roles are filled, I think either McGeady or Gooch could leave along with AoB. I don't think a central defender will go,other than maybe Arby out on loan to get matches. I love JD,and would see him doing the Broadhead role for the time being. We would also be able to wait for Huggins and O9.

I don’t think Defoe could do the Broadhead role. I think that’s earmarked for Dajaku or possibly one of the new lads (Clarke?). We’ll need to change the way we play to accommodate Defoe in my opinion.

I think that this Defoe 'thing' hopefully is an amazing smokescreen that the club are using whilst we make other 'equally or more important signings'. Hope we do get him though.

One thing for sure with this recruitment team is we won’t just have Defoe as an option, we’ll have other deals lined up incase it goes tits up!

Agree. Younger, Hawkes, Hume and maybe Diamond will all go onto have decent careers in professional football imo, although whether any surpass a mid level L1 team is to be seen. Good luck to them all. Hope they do well

Im not bothered whether we get Defoe, unless he stays on under some coaching/mentor capacity once he finally hangs up his boots.

My guess would be we are trying to move some out before able to fit Defoe into budget limits.

I think its pretty clear we are in pole position for Defoe. Even if you ignore the ITK input we have had (which I don't), he’s no longer being linked with anybody else. If he was going somewhere he’d be linked by now surely.

As far as I know we are the only club that had admitted trying to sign him.

Now that doesn’t mean we will. And I only think we should if its on the right terms for us, and fully back LJ and KLD and KS on that. But we are definitely favourites.

I agree. If we do get him, I don’t think we will see much of him except last 20 mins or so. If he is coaching material then he could be a good acquisition for the young uns. (I’m not saying he would not have an impact in those 20 mins).
