QPR v Swansea City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Prince Kiyan Foundation Stadium Date - 25 January 2022 Kick off - 7:45pm Following their deserved 1-0 home win over Preston, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a difficult looking away match at 4th placed QPR - this game being QPR’s game in hand over 2nd placed Bournemouth, with victory enabling them to leapfrog the ‘Muff into the second automatic place. Last Saturday, the Swans got back to winning ways thanks to Ryan Manning's thunderous strike against Preston North End. The contest marked the return of fans to the Swansea.com Stadium following a change to Welsh government Covid-19 restrictions. However, the first half was poor and saw little in the way of chances at either end, but the Swans deserved to win on the balance of play. The decisive moment came in the 51st minute as Manning's superb strike flew into the top corner of the net. Whilst the Swans were winning, Albert Adomah's late 88th minute goal gave QPR victory at Coventry, although both Managers were broadly in agreement that Coventry did enough to win - but it’s goals that count Adomah headed home Chris Willock's cross to clinch a fourth consecutive win for the west London side, putting them just two points behind second-placed Bournemouth with a game in hand. Willock also set up the opening goal for Andre Gray, threading through a clever pass for the on-loan Watford striker, who fired home. Jordan Shipley hauled the Sky Blues level with a cracking strike from near the edge of the penalty area five minutes into the second half, but Adomah restored Rangers' lead with his second goal of the season. The Swans have played QPR on 51 previous occasions, winning 16, losing 21 and drawing 14. In the corresponding fixture last season, the Swans ran out deserved 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe: Turning to Tuesday evening - a match that has been selected by QPR as a ‘Kids for a Quid’ fixture - despite the confidence gleaned from the victory over Preston, I find it difficult to expect anything other than a 2-0 defeat. Victory, however, could/would ignite aspirations of mounting a charge for the Play Offs - Forest in the Final at Wembley anyone?
Thanks Taff....first of our double header away games this week .....not easy by any means but if we can play at the same intensity as in the second halves v Huddersfield and Preston we could get a positive result....
A draw wouldn't be shabby against a team finding some decent form .unbeaten in 4 hard game but winnable IF we as you say play at the same intensity for most of the game ( not sure we have the legs for a whole game though )
Thanks Taff. This is always a match that throws up some unusual results. I agree with Matt we are capable of winning this but a quick turnaround from Saturday will make it difficult. So I will be delighted to come away with a point and then 3 at Hull on Saturday.
Hull’s new owners have sacked Grant McCann. He departs the Tigers despite back-to-back wins which moved the club 10 points clear of the relegation zone, including beating promotion contenders Blackburn and Bournemouth in his last two games in charge. The new owner wants his own man and ex-Rangers and Ajax striker Shota Arveladze is expected to be announced as the new boss before the weekend's match with Swansea.
Swansea City head coach Russell Martin has made one change for Tuesday’s Championship clash with Queens Park Rangers. Hannes Wolf – who joined on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach last week – makes his first start for the club in place of Olivier Ntcham, who misses out through injury. Ben Hamer continues in goal, with Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton and Ryan Manning operating in a three-man defence in front of him. Cyrus Christie and Joel Latibeaudiere continue at wing-back having been prominent in Saturday’s victory over Preston. Skipper Matt Grimes and Flynn Downes pair up again in midfield, with Korey Smith and Wolf providing support to Joel Piroe in attack. Queens Park Rangers: David Marshall; Lee Wallace, Rob Dickie, Yoann Barbet, Stefan Johansen (captain); Luke Amos, Sam Field, Jimmy Dunne, Chris Willock, Moses Odubajo; Charlie Austin. Substitutes: Joe Lumley, Jordy de Wijs, Dominic Ball, George Thomas, Andre Dozzell, Albert Adomah, Lyndon Dykes. Swansea City: Ben Hamer; Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton, Ryan Manning; Cyrus Christie, Flynn Downes, Matt Grimes (captain), Joel Latibeaudiere; Korey Smith, Hannes Wolf; Joel Piroe. Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Ryan Bennett, Jay Fulton, Michael Obafemi, Kyle Joseph, Liam Walsh, Azeem Abdulai.
Shame Ntcham is unfit, I expect Wolfe wont last the full 90 mins with the replacement dependent on the state of the game. Is Obafemi on the bench only because we dont have too many to pick from at the moment. Looks like Pato is on his way out.
Hopefully they will get a new manager bounce and seeing they have won their last two it will be the downwards trajectory
Ntcham is a loss along with Patterson ( we didn't miss him Saturday but he does bring strength & a bit of guile into the middle ) Not really confident about a win but a draw is more than doable
