Fantastic news, if true. The Oxford's owners comments earlier hinted that they weren't getting him, but I always thought he might go to Charlton. The next few days will probably tell us more about what his role will be in the next six months and beyond, but this will give the whole club a lift. This is shaping up to be another great transfer window for the new regime. Edit: Bastards!
Again said it many times he has so much unfulfilled potential but I think he is running out of chances , unfortunately unless he starts producing some good form from now until the end of the season I would be surprised if he was given a new contract which will be a shame as he has been a good servant to the club . The ball is very much in his court but with not giving us the assists and goals he is capable of and his form generally heading downwards though with some exceptions in various games his inconsistency is going to cost him big style . Come on Goochie prove us all wrong and earn a new contract by rediscovering your form !!!
I think its time for Gooch to move on either now or definitely in the summer. I have nothing against him at all but he has been at the club a long time and needs to get the motivation of a new challenge, nail down a fixed position and get away from being the utility player here. From the club point of view I think we have to try and move on. He can do fantastic things at times and he puts a shift in every week but it seems like 1 good game in 4 or 5 and we need more if we are going to turn 3rd and 4th into top 2.
Gooch has had more than enough in terms of chances. He is slow, lacks any wing ability to get past a player. He relies on one good game every 10 and somehow is the first name on team sheet. He ran the ball out of play last game in final stages when no where near the touch line. Sooner he is gone the better and we stop being sentimental over how he came through the academy etc.
He thinks he is quick and agile but literally just has one trick and that often fails. He really isn't fast at all
How do you know what he thinks? He has done a solid job this season, playing in about 6 different positions as well. Can’t say he doesn’t give his all and is more than adequate for this season imo.
Can't agree. He's a frustrating player but he's been asked to play about 7 different positions this season, most of them in the last 12 weeks. Give the lad a consistent run in one position (and don't change his position twice during the game as happened v Lincoln) and then we might see the best of him
He’s one of those where he frustrates the life out of me. He has got a turn of pace, he can beat a man, he can score goals. However, he switches off, he fails to see the bigger picture and plays with his head down, he wants to beat his man three times when a cross should be put into the box as soon as he gets his yard of space. From the clubs point of view, a player who can cover adequately in numerous positions is worth having around. But he’ll never be more than that here. For his career, he should probably go elsewhere where he can get that consistent run of games in his favoured position. Wish him all the best whatever happens!
You'd assume this bit is trainable/coachable - decision making is the mental side of things and when he's got all the physical/technical skills you'd think he could sort the others side of things
So what business can you see us getting done before the deadline? Striker Centre mid Left back cover Clarke the winger?
Striker and a ball winning CM would do me. Our recruitment lately has generally came completely out of the blue. A week to go so still hopeful
3 of those I reckon There will have to be a striker of some sort coming in, we can't rely on LND staying fit You'd assume there will be a LB if we are happy to let Hume go Can't see us bringing in a CM. Just feels like Johnson wants his small, technically gifted players rather than the physical presence we have been talking about
Worry you may be right about the CM. For me its key and I think its our big weakness would be a mistake not to address it. understand how LJ wants to play but if you look at all the top teams, they play good football but have a strong platform in midfield fabinho Fernandinho Kante We have some very gifted players but they need a platform to play off.
You would think so, but then he has played for/been coached by numerous managers and coaching staff during his time here. I would hope that the professionals can see what the rest of us see and try to address it. Maybe he’s just not capable of taking it in and acting on it and maybe that’s the difference between league 1 players and those who have a career higher up the leagues
