Got to be bullshit as there is no way we would be "negotiating".

I think it is bollocks, but unfortunately, we are that low hanging fruit to a club like Newcastle. They will play, they will get paid a lot more and a few wins and Newcastle's prospects are better than ours. Not nice, but a fact. A top six side is more of a gamble to the player as they may not play etc.

Theres virtually no chance we are selling a first teamer in January. Even if Salisu kicked up a fuss and said he wanted to leave which I can't see happening right now, I think we'd sit on it until the summer.

We are sat in a pretty comfortable position where we are very unlikely to go down and very unlikely to get into Europe so I think we would sell if the offer is right.

January is when teams can be tempted to put in stupid bids so if Newcastle were to bid a huge amount for Salisu I think we would take it (I don’t think £30m is that amount)

I've looked at Alicia Vikander, but unfortunately was told that this wouldn't be possible.

I'd say they'd have to offer £80mill for us to even consider it.

We don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. If Salisu doesn’t want to extend his contract (and quite simply he’d be pretty stupid/Ill advised to be extending his deal atm) then we might have to sell this summer anyway.

We’d get more for him now than in the summer in that scenario, and with no real danger of relegation then the club might think it makes sense.

But yeah that’s all adding 2+2 and getting 5 potentially

With the number being higher the closer it is to the deadline as we would need a replacement and we don’t tend to rush stuff like that (and I wouldn’t want us to)

Indeed I’d suggest if it was deadline day itself it would just be a “no”

We don't typically sell in Jan - Van Dijk being the exception and that was done right at the start of the January window and we got 75mill for him. So at this stage of the window it would take an astronomical offer for us to sell. And TBH, I'm not sure Newcastle would be on Salisu's wish list of potential destinations. And Salisu has 2 years left on his contract after this season so there's no need to sell yet.

Your positive outlook never ceases to amaze

I’d offer a counter - he might be very WELL advised to extend his contract now when his stock his high and he is in a good negotiating position and there are new owners who wish to make a statement. Indeed his renewal would be the first such “statement”

Take one look over to Sam McQueen for an example of what could happen to a football player.

I’ll accept mine is the most positive spin on the situation. Only reasonable given yours is the most negative possible

Even if he doesn’t renew clubs are generally holding out for big money even when players have 12-18 months left. Especially from the likes of Newcastle who are trying to prove a point. Look at Ings and Villa. We got about double what other clubs would have offered.

If I remember correctly, Salisu rejected the chance to play in the African Nations Cup (or whatever it’s called) because he wanted to consolidate his place in the premier league.
I would hope that he would want that to be with Saints, for at least a few years more, rather than going to Newcastle and potentially being in the championship.

When he does leave us, (which he will in a season or 2), it will be to a bigger team than Newcastle.
