yeah, I said further up the thread I'd have never overturned it, but the way Richards wailed like a ****ing banshee last night was preposterous.
Seems we've found something to agree over Jimbo. I said this right after the game: Those first 35 were bloody brilliant, then one loose pass from Matip and we just seemed to fall apart. To be fair to Vieira, his tactical tweaks wrong-footed us as well, but we are so slow to adjust.
This was always going to be a tough month without some big stars. I'm just glad that we managed to pull through because I was incredibly (and unnecessary worried) that we would look toothless up front without Salah and Mane. We will have pretty much a full squad available soon ... on we go!
For all that Palace played well, they only had three shots (one on target) in the 35 minutes after they scored, and one of those was right afterwards. So while the penalty made it certain, we were still likely to win. It's not like Palace have a history of comebacks against us or anything.
For what it's worth, the penalty was soft and I definitely wasn't expecting it go in our favour. With that said, I'm happy it was given after seeing all of the reactions from rival fans. I want to see blood and p*ss boil! also, let's not forget Trent's wonderful pass which created that chance ...
basically near carbon copy of his hopeful punts v arsenal that lead to a read card first, then a goal.
That felt like a massive win. With regard to the penalty, it's about time we got one judged by the same standard as the rest of the league. Not like it was the winner or even a game changer. Fabinho on a late run for the Golden Boot?
Eh. The penalty. Seeing it live at full speed thought: "That's a penalty". Seeing the first replay and in slow motion looks like Jota running into keeper: "That's not a penalty". Watching it a few more times and seeing the keepers arms come up to Jota... "Ok, maybe that is a penalty." It's a soft penalty but not totally unfair. I'd be annoyed if I were palace but the penalty wasn't entirely without cause and didn't really impact the result.
Can’t bring myself to agree Hear what you are saying but if that is now the standard for pens Oh my days ! I would be fine if FA came out and said What the **** was VAR official smoking and took a goal off us
Mate, it's been the standard for a good while. We're usually on the wrong end of it and Sunday showed us benefitting, for a change. I'd prefer that penalties were awarded fairly but they're not so I will take that one as part of the pay back.
I don't think it would be in question elsewhere on the field, a player arrives late to a tackle and puts his arm up to block the other guy. Obvious free kick. It's because it's in the penalty box and involves the keeper it looks questionable. Keepers get away with a lot usually. One thing I will say... The slowmo and real speed of the event look very different. The slow motion makes it look like Jota swerved into the keeper but at full speed it just looks like a natural wobble and clearly avoiding the defender. I think slow motion can be deceiving sometimes.
Im unsure what all the furor over the penalty is about. did the keeper impede jota, yes he did. then it’s a penalty. Whether he’s getting to the ball or not doesn’t matter. Jota takes a step towards the keeper but again so what, he can stand where he likes, he doesn’t run into the keeper, the keeper hits him. I’ve no understanding why there are different rules for what constitutes a foul in the box and what constitutes a foul outside.
I think you are being kind to Jota Cause in my world he looks at the keeper and heads that direction knowing the ball is gone lol
Lets face it the wee fella is a diving git. He's form Portugal, its a prerequisite. He dives and screams like nobodies business all over the park. I'm pretty sure the ref pre-decided he was not blowing up for pens but was happy wave yellows about randomly all over the park. IMo thats why he didn't give it in the first place. The fact is the VAR buffoon was the same guy who got done for not giving ederson a review after he clattered into someone recently and so has also predetermined to take good close looks at keepers and make sure he referred it no matter what. I think we ought to recognise that ward was booked for shoving jota, schlupp was booked fouling jota, gallagher fouled jota in first half and got a booking for a soft one on fabinho second half. the lad is always falling over and making sure the ref makes a decision. now its not like he doesn't take his lumps and hes the first one to foul in a snide way himself to break up play. If i were a ref I'd be watching mane and jota like a hawk and i'd want my VAR man to let me know on salah as well.
Look at it this way, if it was Kane, he’d be lauded as clever “winning the penalty” the keeper would have been mocked for falling into the devious trap that sir harry had laid for him. jota, he’s a diving foreigner.
I'm quite happy for Jota to shout and scream every time an opponent lays a hand or boot on him. When you think about the wrestling moves carried out on Salah and Mané every week with not a murmur from them, I'm glad that someone is at least trying to get, what amounts to, our fair share of decisions. Last season was shockingly bad for decisions that went against us. This season hasn't been as bad but just think about the Kane challenge on Robbo and how that was handled and rejoice every Jota howl and roll that gets the ref's attention.
