When Arsenal signed Partey and we signed Hojbjerg, not gonna lie I thought the goons smashed it at the time but we absolutely got the better deal and better player. Actually surprised how bad Partey’s been.
Some Arsenal fans are in denial still, but the truth is he's been an absolute disaster of a signing. Horrible, horrible player. Saul likewise hasn't been impactful at Chelsea either. Both from Atletico Madrid. It appears these guys are specifically suited for a particular system that Simeone helped mould. Outside of that system, these guys look lost. Partey's had a few good performances here and there, but that's not what we paid £50m for. He's just not been good enough.
If it’s any consolation we’re in a similar boat with Ndombele. Albeit I would say most of the fanbase is now of the understanding that he’s finished here and any hope of that £55m investment bearing any fruit is long gone. Likewise Lo Celso. Partey has surprised me though, can’t lie. Pleasantly from my perspective of course but I really was envious when you lot got him. The bloke seemed like a one-man midfield at times under Simeone but I think as you covered he’s seemingly suited to a specific system - and possibly country/ league.
I'm not sure what the over-celebration for that 0-0 was about. Liverpool are much better away from home these days anyway and Arsenal don't beat top sides.
This season, you're right, but prior to this season, we had the opposite problem where we were getting decent results in the bigger games and not getting results against the midtable/lesser sides. Under Arteta, prior to this season, we beat Chelsea 3x, beat United 2x, beat Liverpool 2x, beat Leicester 2x, beat Spurs and City.
