Here is an honest opinion. I could not manage a football club, but at times earlier this season and the season before last, I did wonder if I could have done better. I based the one post I made where I said he should go on that feeling, even I, a know nowt, felt I could have got the same results. McCann has turned things around. My belief was and still is that, the best manager in the world would have struggled to motivate any team for that Stoke game. A big influencer in the dressing room had gone, the coaching staff could be next and no money was on the table for new blood. By demonstrating that he could still deliver results after that Stoke game, McCann gets a vote of confidence for a few more.
Then I'm confused. Did Slutsky know the league? I'm pointing out that sitting back passively researching the league isn't the same as managing in it, and managers who think they can work out the league can quickly come undone. Plenty of unproven foreign managers have come in and struggled - of course many have been a success, but this is a perilous time to be rolling that dice if we don't need to.
Sluts was hopeless and out of his depth by his own admission. I never had the impression that he understood the league, English football etc but quite liked us and Yorkshire. Slutsky is a good example of failure, likeable though he may be, and someone who came into the job with eyes shut. All I'm saying is that I hope that the new owners are more savvy than to bring someone in like him. Arveladze is an experienced bloke having played and managed in some fairly varied and interesting places. Hopefully he will fit in well and do and great job. I don't know. Just hope!
I am referring to someone who has had constant communication with new owner watching the clubs games and analysing them for 4 months.
This DOF, I have no idea who it is, is it this Tan guy? What’s his history? Is he an ex footballer? Or just someone who’s been around football for a long time?
I agree with this, and Slutsky was the wrong manager at the wrong time. However, the club at the moment is in a very different position to when he was manager. At that time, all our best players were being sold and the investment was terrible, with an eye on the budget. Everything was negative. Now, its a different time. We're hopefully keeping our best players (although that will remain to be seen!) and there is money available for improvements. I'm not saying an unproven manager is definitely the answer because I do think knowing the league is of benefit, but just saying that the circumstances have definitely changed.
I'd guess if he's not gone today he's likely around for a while. Surely they wouldn't keep him on a match by match basis?
He's achieved nothing at this level, as for clinging to to the straw of one point off the play offs, at one point during the season, what trophy do you get for that! His overall record at management at Championship level is there for all to see, it's probably the very worst on record!
Isn't Lewie Coyle meant to be fit soon? If McCann's still around I wonder if he'll be trying to shoehorn him into the side?
