Off Topic Windows 11

ive just been informed that there are workarounds (youtube) that can remove the need for tpm and other stuff so you can install win 11 on "unsupported" machines. but you never know these workarounds might be worked around by microsoft in the future. and then what? i was gonna use the workaround on my other pc but like you, think i will leave win 10 on it and see how it goes.

 

no offense brownbag but why is it people with macs preach the mac gospel much like jehovas witnesses? i have a pal who bought a mac years ago and went out of his way to say how good it was at every opportunity. this put me off buying one even more.
can you do much with macs?

i built a pc late 90's and - it worked. ive still got it now. and all ive had to do over the years is change the motherboard the power unit the cpu the ram the graphics card the hdds to sdd x 2 plus a fancy m2 ssd. plus left 4 hdds on = 7 in total. oh ive added a new case twice since then. more of a hobby than owt else. im a hoarder in life and my pc is cluttered with stuff i should have deleted years ago hence all the hard drives.

maybe i should have bought a mac.....

Course you can, they're computers! Obviously it depends on what your needs and interests are on whether a Mac or pc is best for you. In my case its been a general workhorse, used for leisure, work and studying. Most software/apps these days have a Mac version, I can't think of anything I've wanted to do that I've not been able to. Currently the main use is for running family history software and scanning and sorting out years of photos and family documents. If you're a gamer or like fiddling with the insides of computers then Macs probably aren't for you.

In my case, even I'm surprised that this computer is still going strong after 10 years - and I mean strong, not just limping along like a 10-year old windows machine would be doing. I suspect the limiting factor will be software updates that don't support the processor, but as long as it works as good as (if not better) than my "new" work laptop then I'll keep it going.

 

i arent implying they are crap or anything. for all i know they are probably better than pc's for a lot of things. i used to be into home video editing and was often told they are better suited for that. its just that i used to hear people sing their praises a bit too loud kinda thing.

and this really is gonna put my opinions onto the scrap heap.

i cant abide fools and horses. i dont think its funny. i can see the punch lines coming a mile off. yet i like the main two actors other stuff?
same with loads of other sitcoms bread. butterflies abfab gavin and stacey. not for me

whereas i like fawlty towers alan partridge blackadder motherland and league of gentlemen.

maybe i like my humour a bit less obvious. small and softer. microsoft.

 

For every Mac evangelical there's a pc equivalent who will be along to say they're overpriced overdesigned toys for people who don't know anything about computers. Shame it put you off, they're just tools at the end of the day.

 

i think it might have been the price as well. its only recently where ive become less of a tight git and realised sometimes you have to splash the cash and a lot of the time you do get what you pay for.

 

They were always a bit expensive although some of the higher end windows PC's are catching up now that they've all got SSD and sexy looks. My wife's been a Mac evangelist for years now but recent experiences with them are really starting to piss her off. Constant operating system upgrades seem to cause more problems than they're worth, she works in a sensitive environment and she's obliged to upgrade. To me everything seems to be harder on a Mac then a pc. We have given up trying to tether her Android phone, maybe we're doing it wrong but it really shouldn't be so hard. Her 3rd party backup system stopped working after an OS upgrade. Took an Apple specialist 2 days to get it to work again. Feeling is that Apple want their customers to be 100% Apple.
