    Morning

    3.50 Dundalk-Thermoscope

    Each Way @ 16-1 [Coral]

Though having first ever race will take a chance as small stable paid a lot of money for him

Authorised speed 4.0 Newburywent in my tracker after his first run when badly hampered at market rasen and finished strongly and then finished second again nto, I'm hoping today is the day and although a very short price it's going to have to carry the extra burden of having my cash on his back also. Let's hope I'm eating steak later and not beans on toast ;)

A nice midweek card at Newbury and, as usual, Lt. Henderson has a few nice entries including 2 in the opening mares hurdle. Nico opts for Tweed Skirt ahead of Might Bite's little sister Bridal Knot (who is surely capable of better than she showed in her bumper) but they might both have to play second fiddle to Speech Bubble. She finished in front of Tweed Skirt in a listed bumper at Sandown (heavy ground).

Glad you've mentioned this race, its one I have been able to spend a little bit of time on yesterday evening.

I watched Speech Bubble's run last time back, being the market leader I thought this was best place to start. She finished strongly, but what was really apparent is that she isn't a natural hurdler. She lost lengths at hurdles and looked cumbersome at times. She obviously has a good engine but will she be able to keep up with 120 rated horses who jump more slickly than she does? I don't think I would be taking shortish prices on her because of this.

Then you look at the form of that race, 12 runs since from horses in the race and zero winners and zero places, including a couple of runs in similar races by the winner that day.

So you move onto Tweed Skirt, who jumped nicely on her two hurdles runs and pulled nicely away from Go Dante last time, defying the market in the process. Go Dante then ran a fair to moderate race behind Stage Star over further next time out. Tweed Skirts previous run was also taking, behind Lady Adare (won again yesterday), where she split future winners Get A Tonic & Holly (lovely name for a filly/mare). She obviously has a good engine from her bumper runs, and she jumps very well in comparison.

The other one I like is Swincombe Fleet who won very takingly last time out, but shaped like a stayer that day, rather than a horse with speed as I see Tweed Skirt. She jumped well and dug in well to win from Fergals Lassue and the next time out winner Petticoat Lucy. I think her hurdling looks an asset and the way she battles makes her a tough horse to rule out over hurdles. Not sure she has run to the level of Tweed Skirt, but over a trip I can see her doing so.

Then you've got Becky The Boo, the half sister to TJ (TJ runs tomorrow!) who has been disappointing given that she works well and looks like a decent horse at home. Code Name Lise looks a work in progress who needs to improve her hurdling, and Bridal Knot looks second string for her yard.

I think this is a race for Tweed Skirt, with Swincombe Fleet as next best.

Got that massively wrong, that mare was very impressive despite not looking a hurdler to me. Very taking effort and I'd love to see her in softer ground over fences!

    16:00 Newbury - Onesteptwosteps

(Ran well enough on debut at Ascot 33-days ago to merit a small e/w interest. James Davies on board for the Nick Gifford yard. Best price at time of writing 16/1, available in four places).

Forget that one, just about pulled jockey's arms off early-on, just refused to settle. Winner very impressive indeed, a bright-looking future ahead for Authorised Speed! <ok> :bandit:
