IMO - after the initial convo was had yday, I say we agree to it. Someone of Defoe's skill, experience and professionalism doesn't come along often. He personally mentored Maja off his own back when he was he last time. You don't buy that sort of personal accountability to have the will to want to improve others around you.
Defoe has exactly the type of attitude and is the sort of role model we want here. I must not get prematurely excited I must not get prematurely excited I must not get prematurely excited …
Isn’t the U 23 boss just a shared role at the moment? We didn’t actually get a replacement? Or am I talking ****e. This feels too good to be true
It's Proctor and someone else running it atm, but neither are permanent. I'd be happy with Defoe running the 23s
I hope so because he isnt what we are missing on the pitch. He couls be am influence, but we need different if we are to go for automatic.
Defoe would have a positive impact on the the season but I think he wouldn’t be the difference between promotion and not. Dominant centre half and centre midfielder would be the difference for me
Fully agree with that, we desperately need a defensive centre midfielder. Defoe would give the place a boost though, little things like that can have a big impact on morale and therefore form.
There are rumours that he has been made an offer. I’d absolutely love it if so. More so if he accepted.
I'm torn on this one. I love JD (despite his Moyes comments) and he is the ultimate pro but where does he fit into our team? He can't play the Broadhead role (wide attacker) and isn't going to dislodge Stewart. Does he come as an impact sub, or will this mean a change in formation?
Defoe does not fit our style of play. Be amazed if this happens. Would go against everything we seem to stand for. At 39 I am not keen. Would give us a boost off the pitch but it I doubt would add much. I just hope the owner has more sense than us fans, we dont need romantaic signings, we need pragmatic ones. Johnson must be wondering what the world is coming to if this happens. He needs support from the people at the top, this is not it
Evans goes against the model, but they can't all be youths. Speaking of which, as others have mentioned he took Maja under his wing last time, if we were to offer him a coaching role after this season which meant all or most forwards had a better finishing technique or conversion rate, surely that is working towards our model of youth who can improve. Also he is a model professional to what looks like near the levels of Ronaldo in how he looks after himself to make the most out of his career. He's in great shape even at 39. What a good example for those just starting out.
