No no, it'd clear nothing on the pitch matters. only the creation of the thread plus application of the required lucky statements matters.

Important to get the win. With Chelsea dropping points West Ham and United and arsenal spurs not playing couldn’t ask for much more. Other than a city draw with Chelsea maybe. Means top 4 should be done now really baring a catastrophes. Need to try cut to gap to 8, best city and then just hope.

if we win every game and lose the title then fair play to city.

Trent has 12 goals / assists in 19 league starts. He currently has 10 league assists with 17 games remaining- the record in a single season by a defender is 13 (which is own record).

This new tactical switch down the right has unlocked him and also Salah as well, both of whom are on fire this season and are big reasons for why we are scoring more goals this season.

Trent is getting better and better ...

Bit of a weird game really. We put them under pressure for most parts without really threatening - far too reliant on crosses into the box and not much else from open play. But thankfully, we did get the breakthrough and was able to see out the game.

Surprised Brentford didn't try to put us under more pressure with long balls (as they did at their ground) but in the few times they did, we dealt with everything.

Matip and Fab were my MOTM - everyone else was decent but nothing great. Still, great to get back to winning ways!

Because he starts from RB (deeper) he gets lot more space and freedom than if he were to play RM/CM. However, the RM/CM positions are generally more influential in games. I think Klopp is trying to get the best of both with whoever's at RCM pulling wide to provide the width. Trouble is, that RCM is usually Hendo who drifts inside too.

I know we've discussed it many times before and the general consensus is 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but I really wouldn't mind seeing Trent moved to RCM and give Williams a crack at RB. Trouble with that is, Williams is an attacking FB so the gap at RB (when possession) would remain.

And i think this is why was working well early on because even though he’s left footed, Elliott would drift out wide into the touch line to allow him to them come inside with the ball as it’s much more natural to him to be wide. Meant was room for TAA to be more tucked in. With Hendo there as you say he likes to be more central so maybe lose some of that.

Also wonder if the idea is to get TAA tucked in a bit more to help defensively? Means rather than pushed right up and wide, he’s deeper and central to allow less of a gap behind him?

Taken from a recent article with Trent:

“There has been a lot of focus this season on the two triangles out wide — so, we have the No 8 in midfield, the full-backs and the wingers on each side. It is about making sure, at all times, there should be someone occupying the width, someone high up on the last line and someone in a half-space or in a midfield eight.

“The manager says it is not too important who it is, just as long as we are occupying those three spaces. With that flexibility, you can do what you want — just make sure that there is someone in those positions. That’s why at times you will see me in between a centre-back and full-back making channel runs, because the No 8 has dropped in at right-back and Mo (Mohamed Salah) is out wide. There’s flexibility and also an understanding of movement and patterns.”

How do you trust someone is going to be there to cover you?

“It is all about communication, really. It is about having an understanding with the players you are playing with. But you can only have full confidence in your position. It helps if you know people are there backing you up. We have played with each other for a long enough time as a team to understand where we need to be when certain things are happening.”

He continues: “The main principle we have is, no matter what system the opposition play, we always have two centre-backs around the halfway line and Fabinho should always be screening that. If they (Liverpool’s opponents) play two up front, we will leave it as three vs two. It is like when the ball is on the left-hand side, we all know Mo is getting in the box. It is then between me and the No 8, say that’s Jordan Henderson, on who gets into the box and backs him up. It should always be one or the other.

“Mo has got no responsibility in staying back defending, that’s not where the team needs him. We need him in the box to go and score goals. You see with Hendo against Everton getting into the box, they are the areas we need to occupy. It is about numbers in the box. If the ball is on a certain side, then that winger is not getting in there, so it is up to the midfielder or the opposite full-back to. You see Robbo (left-back Andrew Robertson) and I in there a lot at the back post. But for that to happen, it is about the protection and that comes from the communication between the centre-backs and Fabinho.

“The main trust has got to be in our counter-pressing. That is the foundation our game is built on. We are known for that, it is what we are famous for. The more numbers you get forward, the more numbers you can have counter-pressing. Our belief that we are going to win the ball high up means we can take more risks.

“But if we are half-hearted, we will be punished. The manager always talks about the last step. There is a difference between getting there and applying a little bit of pressure and getting there and being in someone’s face and blocking or winning the ball. We need to do it wholeheartedly.”

He was terrible against Arsenal. The only time we looked remotely dangerous was when Williams came on.
This isn't a criticism of Trent, but of the way he was being deployed. The majority of our creativity comes from the wings, so why take one of the most creative away from there and put him into an area that's already over-crowded? Especially when Salah isn't there.

He was terrible vs Arsenal but bear in mind he did just recover from Covid. And you're taking a single game and disregarding the fact that he's been even more creative this season by playing more centrally ...
