One of my very best next door neighbours ever, Brian Compton. Such a fantastic and generous person who will be deeply and sadly missed. Cancer was detected just after the first lockdown, he was given three months, he fought it for one year and nine months, such was the mark of the man. Born in Coventry, supported Liverpool, but he was one of those few people in life that I wouldn’t hold it against him. Myself and my missus loved the man, as we do his lovely wife that’s left behind. RIP Brian, until we meet again
Two fantastic songs right there RIP Marilyn Bergman obituary Songwriter whose partnership with her husband produced award-winning compositions including The Way We Were and You Don’t Bring Me Flowers Adam Sweeting please log in to view this image The songwriting catalogue of Marilyn Bergman, who has died aged 93, and her husband, Alan, evokes a golden age of Hollywood and popular song, and their compositions were performed by the greatest artists of their era. Their close professional relationship with Barbra Streisand is enshrined in her performance of The Way We Were. The painfully poignant ballad of remembrance and regret was a collaboration between the Bergmans and Marvin Hamlisch and won the Academy award for best original song in 1974, while their composition You Don’t Bring Me Flowers was a US chart-topping duet for Streisand and Neil Diamond in 1978.
BBC4, tomorrow 21.00 to 21.30, Ronnie Spector at the BBC - ''A look at the life and career of 60s icon and girl-group pioneer Ronnie Spector, featuring performances in shows such as Later… with Jools Holland, The Old Grey Whistle Test and Glastonbury 2016''
I just heard an old friend of mine, Gavin Steward has passed away, really good guy, apart from when we were kids we built a big bomb fire in the fields behind a friends house, and he hurled a brick from one side, over the top, to the other, but unbeknown to him I was on the other side. It landed plumb on the top of my head. I can still see the horror on my mother's face when I ran home with my face completely covered in blood as was my white shirt. I never held it against him. RIP Gavin.

It's followed by a Stones documentary - ties in well with Ronnie as she was one of Keith Richards 'friends' back in the 60s.
Quentin Lavalee, only 20 - killed at this years Dakar rally when his assistance vehicle collided with a local truck. Too young, RIP.
Funny, I hadn't realised at first that spez did his post yesterday not today. So I was looking for the Spector program tomorrow, if you see what I mean...
He wrote some absolute classics - Gotta see Jane, Indiana Wants Me, There's a Ghost - which sound fresh over 50 years later. A really influential producer at Motown, he was somewhat underrated as an artist in his own right. His greatest hits album is never far away from my playlist. Great cover version of Ghost by The Fall, anarl. RIP RDT.
See the fella who opened Bun in the Oven late night takeaway , scouser has died . Great place for dodgy but very useful burgers after pub and then to the taxi queue He provided a very good public service
