In the same boat here Irish. The stats make it sound like we're doing ok but without pictures I have absolutely no idea ..
Well, we couldn't get the win against 10 man WBA the other week so nothing to suggest we can salvage anything here either
Pitifully painful performance. What’s the point in having possession if you then waste it in the final third?????? I am so fed up of watching a sterile central midfield. Vaulks’ performance today was as bad as it could have been. blackburn coasted to a win. How many teams have now come down here, taken an early lead from a goal gift wrapped to them and easily played out time??? I bet every other championship team can’t wait to play us away. We’re so easy to play against. Morison also makes it easier for them with his team selections.
@irishbluebird @BrizzleBluebird Watched all the game live on CCTV - what's the matter with you tight arses, can't you afford a tenner?..... That was as well as I've seen City play this season. The passing was miles better than before and we were very unlucky not to get something from the game. Distinct lack of a cutting edge was the problem. When you play Harris and Collins together, they both cover so much ground out on the flanks that we had no "go to" players around the box - needed one of them to stay near their penalty area to receive and let our midfield do the running around. Today we needed a Watters type player - can't wait for him to be fit. BTW, Drameh looks class. that was a good acquisition.
Blackburn didn't coast to a win at all. We were all over them but had no killer instinct up front. As I've already said, Collins and Harris were trying to do the same job leaving no one in the middle to worry them. It's all very well pressuring them out wide but there was no threat in front of goal. You can blame Morison for that if you like and that's fair enough, but the team looked like a team this afternoon.
As someone who works in procurement it's all about assessing value for money Sparks.... So far this season I've not been convinced a tenner will prove good value It's promising that we are starting to dominate possession on a regular basis but the lack of cutting edge and creativity were absolutely my concerns when seeing the starting line up. Sadly, youngsters aside we have no one with that creativity still. Same old same old I guess. Lots of promise but we're still a little way off turning that promise into results. We are however running out of games to start turning the tide. Worrying but exciting times, the life of a City fan in a nutshell!
A couple of months back we talked about being patient while we try and change things. We knew it would be tough with no money to spend. Today we showed that things really are starting to change. Ok, we lost but we took on the team now second in the division and made them resort to roughing us up and parking the bus. Yes, we didn't take our numerous chances and there's still things to be looked at. But, the change was marked today and as Sparkey said,it was as good as I've seen this season. On that showing, we'll beat many others in the Championship. Real progress in my book.
All in hindsight I know, but given the way we played, I'd go as far as to say if Glatzel had been playing instead of Collins, we'd have won that.
That was 3 points without breaking sweat. Blackburn followed the template of away teams at CCS. Score an early goal and then do little else but coast to a comfortable win. City flattered to deceive. At 0-1 as aforesaid Blackburn were more than happy letting City have possession knowing City had no individual players who could hurt them. If City has got on terms then Blackburn would likely have switched on the burners and gone forward more positively but they didn’t have to. City did nothing with their possession; the build up was so slow it allowed Blackburn to get into position to deal with the blunt forays with absolute ease. It may have been different had Moore been on the pitch as clearly City desperately miss his presence - Collins is lightweight and anonymous- and god forbid he’s sold and not replaced like for like. A predictable performance by both teams and as easy a win as Blackburn will have all season.
Sorry Nin, that's rubbish. Blackburn got their goal against the run of play with a sweet strike into the corner that couldn't have been placed better. They dropped behind the ball and defended well against a powderpuff City attack - apart from that they weren't in the game. A few strikes from Vaulks and Ralls in particular would have flown into the net another time, but struck their defenders without them knowing anything about it - it's just a pity we're having to rely on midfielders to even hit the ball. You can say that them allowing us the ball was by design but that doesn't give credit to the way City have adopted a far more organised gameplan. I agree City had nothing to offer at the sharp end and therein lies the problem. We've said that possession means nothing, but it's a start. Now Morison has to find a way to turn that into the only thing that really matters and that's goals. Today's result clearly demonstrates that - City 0 - 1 Blackburn.
I agree that Morison has them playing in a more positive manner than MM but other than that I maintain my view that today Blackburn eased to a win by following the template of playing away to City.
Without a competent striker that will always be the problem. Maybe the return of Moore will see an improvement or a change of style to suit Watters. I still feel if we get good money for Moore it must be reinvested in someone who knows how to find the back of the net regularly.
They got their win because we couldn't score - that's the bottom line. Nothing to do with Mowbray following a template. I'm not saying we were unlucky, it's just where we are. Tackling the basics like being able to pass a ball to one another had to come first. The next thing will be to get an end product - that is where Morison has got his work cut out. I hope Watters gives him another platform to work off.
It was everything to do with the opposition putting into practice the tried and largely tested method to win at Cardiff. 9 teams have succeeded - so far - and we’re just over half way through the season. I’d go as far as to say today that 0-0 would have been the best result our performance merited by virtue of the negligible threat on Blackburn’s goal.
