I've said before I hope we make a significant move away from marquee signings. I'm hoping that Rangnick (and Poch if/when he comes) do what they have a track record of doing, which is identifying the best up and coming young players and turn them into great players at United. Part of the reason we've failed is by thinking we can buy ready made top footballers and build a team. Woodward's been largely responsible for that and thank fck he's pissing off at the end of the month. I can't see Varane being a regular. I think we'll be lucky to see him in a quarter of the games as his injury problems persist. The problem this creates is you then have Maguire as the senior CB and I'm convinced that's not a role he can do. He needs a leader next to him. a more experienced CB who will think for him. Jones, Mengi and Tuanzebe aren't the players for that.
As much as I want to say ten Haag might be better option for longevity given the work that he’s done at Ajax, I imagine that if it doesn’t rapidly work out, there will be a psychological blow back asking why we never went for Poch given his experience in the league. So I guess that makes ten Haag a riskier choice as Poch will likely deal with the pressure better from his experience at PSG. And by the time he comes, he will have that trophy under his belt to get the naysayers off his back early on. All in all, I’m glad that he didn’t come in mid season. We need a major reset and disruption which is too hard to do in the middle of the season given how unbalanced the team is.
I read a report today that we have the most expensive squad in world football. That report is sandwiched by multiple reports suggesting that the dressing room is in turmoil with senior players sick of underachieving. These factors validate my thinking that a clear out should be the priority in this transfer window. We have way too many players that all believe that should all be playing. And when they eventually play, they seem unable to deliver. To put it bluntly, the club is broken. Hence why Rangnick has to be disruptive now to create a path for us next season. If certain players are struggling to cope to unlearn horrible shtshow that they’ve been thought, perhaps the best option is to let them go in this transfer window with more in the summer. Then strategically being in quality players for next season as well as use the quality in youth system to start the rebuilding process.
Tbf isn't that what Ole did after Jose left. And he was applauded for it, and rightly so tbf. It was the one part of his job he generally got right. At the very least it shows that clearouts aren't the answer. At the most it shows there's a good number in that squad who still have a future at the club.
Unfortunately that squad cheer out was never really managed to form good habits to sustain the team into the future . Essentially it was a wasted clear out. New players came in and did well for a period of time. But with herd mentality, they too quickly became victims of the lack of system.
Are these rumours true that CR is looking to get out? If true, then let's send him on his way quickly so that we can start the rebuilding for the future.
BTW guaranteed if we win tonight, the ABU's in the media and fanbases will make out it's all about Ronaldo.... again
I'm happy Cavani seems to be staying, i like the way he is always talking to Greenwood and looks after him if he gets clattered. Could help the lad improve enormously.
Everyone feeling a bit more confident after that game? Me neither We're playing them again this weekend... please log in to view this image
Why is it we can't seem to get a manager who actually wants to shout instructions during a game? He just stands there, which tbf is a step up (literally) from Ole but where's the passion? No wonder the team reflect that on the pitch when things are going wrong. And the lack of any subs for 70 mins when we were getting overrun. I'm willing to accept we're winning fck all this season or not even making Top 4, but to do so in such a lacklustre way is criminal tbh.
Lingard and Elanga looked so much more alert when they came on it was telling. I can't get my head around Rashford and specially Greenwoods decline. I used to have a favourite txt to my lad "Mason doesn't miss". That may still hold some water but his shots now look far more like pass backs.
