If that's the case then it's even more ridiculous to leave a bloke on who's nearly 35 to run around for 30 minutes, risking the possibility of making it worse.
Sad to say but Bertrand is a liability. Even with all our defensive injuries there has to be someone in the academy that is more mobile and fitter.
Just for a wee while there it looked promising. What a patched up side we have at the moment. I dont agree with the calls for Rodgers to go. What is he supposed to do with half a team missing? What we do need to do is sort out whoever is responsible for the set piece drills as that is obviously our weakest point. Pity to hear about Ricardo now with a broken leg. Klopp not unexpectedly quiet over that tackle, wonder if he will be questioned about it in a couple of days time.
Spot on about the defensive coaching. Get Huth and Morgan back to show the staff how it's done. You can't have Tielemans marking Laporte while Vestergaard and Amartey are zonal marking. But there is no defence for grappling with your man while not even looking at the ball. Certain penalty every time. I didn't realise Ricardo's injury was that serious, although it looked bad at the time. That guy has had some serious bad luck over the last 18 months. We need JJ back asap. The real positive from the last few games is Maddison's return to form. Completely different player when he stays on his feet and competes. Great performance from him yesterday. The team can hold their heads high. Might as well give the title to Man City now. They seem to have avoided covid and injuries and are managing to field a full strength team every game while their opponents are having to play with one foot tied behind their back.
Yesterday didn't go quite as badly as I thought it would. Looking at our team selection, I'd braced myself for 8-0. We did play some good attacking football and I actually thought the scoreline was slightly harsh. But if you give away stupid penalties and fail to defend set pieces, again and again, it's too be expected. Our injury situation is worsening and several players will be off to the AFCON, so I'm not seeing much happiness in our Happy New Year.
AFCON is interesting. Mendy is not in our squad so no loss but Kelechi, Armartey and Ndidi will all be a loss. A niggly little hammy or perhaps Covid for a couple of weeks may be to our advantage if if keeps them from going. Thankfully Zambia didn't qualify.
Well, that was an unexpected, excellent result from our depleted, half injured boys. Some good performances from our makeshift team and pleasingly a lot of fighting spirit. Scored a great goal and didn't concede from a corner. No, this is not a drill. We really didn't. In fact, against one of the best forward lines in football we didn't concede at all. Happy New Year Foxes. Obviously, being old and experienced, I'm now expecting a defeat to Norwich
Discovery of the season for us has to be Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. A real work-horse with great ability. He looks totally at ease in the team and adds a lot of energy, pace and creativity alongside Tielemanns and Maddison. We have started to look very dangerous going forwards.
The difference of sticking someone on the post and man marking at corners was all there to see last night. Defended bery well all night. Excellent games from Kasper, Amartey, Thomas and KDH. WHAT A WIN. And like Foxy in Foyle said earlier, watch us go and lose to Norwich!!!!!!!!!!
Norwich now postponed, one less thing to worry about. Vardy out for 4 weeks, which is a considerable worry. With Nacho off to the AFCON and Daka also out.
Vardy now out for up to 8 weeks. Evans out until April. Daka and Soyuncu may be back for Burnley. Justin is hopefully playing for the U23's next week. For tomorrow we've 9 fit outfield players. Thomas ill, KDH, Soumare and Castagne all doubtful. And the PL have rescheduled Spurs and Everton in the next 2 weeks. Marvellous! We thought the other week it couldn't get any worse. It has
What a great day for the club. Some of our senior players stepping up and showing their class while also youngsters coming into a winning environment which can only give them more confidence. Hamza, magnificent.
The magic of the FA Cup, small local clubs getting drawn against a top level team, and the opportunity to see great players at their stadium......... Dear God, please don't let us, as holders, lose to forest
Wouldn't mind us trying to tempt Djed Spence to make an East Midlands switch ... he had a cracking game down Forests right and caused the Goons all sorts of problems
The lad that impressed me over the weekend against some top class opposition was the Swindon right sided player Kessler-Hayden. Reminded me very much of James Justin - he could defend and also get forward. I see he's just been recalled by Villa.
