Yeah. Magennis in a 3 but Eaves in a 2 all the way. Smith grafted his nuts off like a terrier down a hole too. Maybe it's a limitation of 'club philosophy' that we didn't get the best from Eaves. Maybe someone in L1 will get a bargain.
If Eaves can play like he did tonight in a front 2, there’s absolutely no reason he can’t make it in the Championship. The Everton centre halves left the field tonight knowing they’d been to war. If Honeyman hadn’t have played as well as he did tonight, Eaves was a shoe in for MOTM.
A funny bit before kick off when they all took the knee (Everton) City players clapped, Eaves took the knee, for about 3 seconds, turned on his knee and saw all the City players standing and clapping. So, he then stood up. That’s destined to be a ‘Question of Sport’, what happened next question? Made me laugh
To be fair though, we've said that before. Formation might not have helped but the lad has never had anything like consistency above L1 level. But then neither have any of our other forwards, or centre halves, or any other position so you can't say McCann hasn't made a team from the wreckage of Ehab's recruitment policy.
I’m sorry, I know I’m fairly new here, but what the **** are you lot on about with Eaves? He’s a dopey target man that might occasionally get on the end of something. I don’t recall him doing anything more than he should and definitely less than he could in the game. He’s the modern game epitome of a ‘plan B’.
He's chaos. He ain't good enough but tries and was immense tonight. Give the lad a break and wish him well. He ain't our future either with Ehab calling the shots or Acun.
Tonight he held the ball up successfully without conceding a foul on quite a few occasions. That's much better than we usually get from him.
The BBC had us playing in Black and Gold today and. apparently, we were unlucky to lose the 2014 F.A. Cup Final. Utter, utter, utter ****S.
Did anyone else see Everton fans swigging pints of beer in the North Stand, behind the goal. Jammy bastards, I got into trouble for that.
I listened to the match on TalkSport. Their announcers mentioned "black and gold" kits as well. Is colorblindness a prerequisite for football announcers?
A little bit deja vu losing 3-2 in ET in the FA cup, but great credit to all the players and McCann and his team for putting on a brilliant performance, a tad unlucky to not at least take it to penalties, though I don't know whether my nerves could stand a penalty shoot out. Wonderful game to watch, to have more possession than Everton, and match them all over the pitch, is no mean feat. Some excellent performances, Docherty & Smallwood before they went off worked tirelessly, the back 3 all had good games, McLoughlin, in my opinion, the standout. Greaves though has to work on his arm positioning, he does get balls coming off his arms quite often, and on another day could have given away 2 penalties. Williams looks a bit lightweight and didn't really affect the game that much, but Honeyman, KLP and Eaves had excellent games, as did Longman when he came on. Tom Huddlestone still oozes class and he certainly brought a calmness to our play after he came on. Overall an excellent performance and with 3 or 4 quality players added would make it a good squad.
My husband was at Wembley in 2014 to see Hull City beaten by Arsenal 3-2 after going ahead 2-0. It was only the second time that a team had led by 2 goals in an FA Cup final and been beaten. He was also at Wembley in 1966 when Sheffield Wed led 2-0 against Everton and became the first ever team to lose after leading by 2 goals. They also lost 3-2. He has only attended 2 FA Cup finals.
