Since Gyan, Bent & Welbeck parted with SAFC for different reasons we all thought/think that our striking options is futile. However since Gyan left we dont seem to be struggling on the goal front nearly as bad as I personally thought and this is down to players "chipping in" with goals all over the pitch. Larsson - 3 goals (All beautys) Elmo - 1 goal Bramble - 1 goal Richardson - 1 goal Gardner - 1 goal Sessegnon - 1 goal This hasnt happened in previous seasons where Bent scored roughly 75% of our goals and last season where it was largely Bent/Gyan & Welbeck. When you take these 3 guy's goals away from the team I thought we were in serious trouble but to be fair to the squad they are "chipping in", which is making up for the loss of last years strikeforce and Bendtner is turning out to be a very good loan purchase with 3 goals already and 2 assists, even young Ji has a goal to his name. I will be interested to see how the next few weeks turn out to see if more players chip in but it is certainly a positive on the last 2 seasons that we arent a 1 or 2 man team anymore. KTF lads.
I still feel that we need to play with two up front if we are going to turn our creativity into goals...
Citeh have 10 different scorers in the league..So although their forwards are banging them in the rest are "chipping in" also. Scary. All we have to do now is hope the Bentner/Wickham thing takes off, and the rest carry on helping..
I think this is very much a positive. I think if we'd had this midfield (and especially the accuracy of Larsson and Vaughan instead of hoofing it aimlessly up the field) last season, Bent and Gyan would have been less inclined to leave. You can't just put two or three defenders on our striker with Larsson, Sess, Gardner &co around. It would be a whole lot easier for those two guys this year than it was last. The good part of that is that Gyan is still our player. If he takes a look at Larsson and Vaughan (and Sess, playing as he did on Saturday 2nd half) and decides he'd like another shot here - well, he's a class act so why not? I think we should leave that possibility open. The other positive is that with a strike partner like Gyan to play with, Bendtner might want to stay. The deal of the whole summer for me anywhere in Britain was shipping Henderson out and bringing in Larsson plus £16 million. I'm a confirmed BoB, but Bruce did very, very well there. Larsson serves the strikers better and scores more goals himself than Hendo ever would.
