Brentford are proper good at this transfer market stuff. Excited to see the result of the equation involving Crocker’s thirst for young British talent, greater financial comfort, Semmens and Ralph steering and a #numbers driven approach to player profiling.
I echo other sentiments that Gao selling up is positive news. It all seems brighter moving forward so I am reasonably optimistic.
Ultimately we needed to be sold. We had been on the market for a long time and we could only tread water for so long, financially and in terms of our position in the league. Realisitically we were never likely to be bought by a multi billionaire looking to splash serious dollar to transform us into a title challenger. And yes, it's too early to say, but Semmens has garnered a certain amount of trust, and the noises coming out from this takeover all sound about as positive as we could have realistically hoped for. At the very least there are aspirations for progress, and that is a lot more exciting than the past 4 years or so where we've been treading water with one watchful eye on the uncomfortably close abyss.
That sounds like a propaganda hit piece tbh, which is in line with what some Serbians have noted in various chat groups relating to this take over.
I'm really pleased for Ralph as well. Hopefully his loyalty to us as well through these tricky times will be rewarded with being able to manoeuvre a bit more cleverly on transfers.
You aren't going to find many self-made billionaires who qualify as great people...in general, while there are a handful of paragons of virtue out there, they're going to range from cut-throat businessmen with good PR management to actual cutters of throats.
It was a very good interview too. Continued the feeling from the New Year when I was able to play the 45rpm record, 'It's great to be back in Southampton' on my recent present of a modern turntable. Also played the song 'We are Southampton' sung by the 1974/5 squad.
Is Semmens local to Southampton? He always comes across as very impressive and I wonder how long it will be before a bigger club come after him.
There’s a twat on Facebook delighted that’s Gao has gone and says “now for Semmens and Hasntgotaclue…” I despair.
If this owner is anything like a certain Milan Mandaric, former chairman of Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester City and You Know Who, there won't be a dull moment, but what will actually be achieved, is another question.
