The best part is Semmens is staying. He has been a top administrator and leader at the club. I think the transfer strategy of getting top young players at the club is a good one albeit enforced. The more money and stability at the club means we can get higher calibre of younger players. I'm not expecting top signings this January. I suspect the summer transfer window will be the one where the squad will improve. I really hope this works out as it could mean exciting times ahead.
At last gao has gone. Wether or not he could or couldn’t invest is immaterial for what ever reason now. Let’s hope the new group can invest in the club to get back to the standard we expect in a premier team. Coys.
From what I heard, Semmens said that the plan will be the same, just that we may be able to do things quicker. Instead of being able to buy 1 Livramento we could now get 4. Could explain our links to McAtee and Delap. With the new owners they are deals we can look at now, rather than wait and see what happens in the summer?? Time will tell. But any kind of net spending will be a lot more than we’ve been used to.
Even if we are now able to spend significantly more, it makes sense not to go on about our new found "war chest". If clubs start to think of us as having a few bob it weakens our negotiating power.
At first seeing the BBC website having Lukaku's apology as the main story felt a bit of a snub, but then I realised he cost about as much as the takeover did
Ankersen seems like a very good fit for us as a team that wants to develop and showcase young talent. I've made no secret of my admiration for Brentford's model, and he seems to have been a large part of that. And I'd expect that some/all of our debts will be cleared if Gao didn't even recoup half of his investment (edit: seeing conflicting reports on the sale price, but it's still low in any instance for a PL club). I'd also suggest that we were in truly dire financial straits to make that happen...when our books are published, it's probably going to be downright shocking. I don't think that we were too awfully far from the abyss. This looks like very good news overall. We'll certainly have to see what happens, but there are now people involved at the ownership level with some competence and actual resources. I'm not expecting them to set money on fire, but having the ability to prevent the club from getting into cataclysmic financial trouble is a real plus.
I like the fact that Katharina is still involved. Shows her affection for the club is real...I bet she could have shifted her share if she wanted to and could make more money elsewhere. I truly believes she wants to do well by us (without being daft of course). Sounds like a good day for us.
By the by, in the DaGrosa takeover thread, I posted Brentford's rather crazy striker trading outpost, where they basically managed to keep selling attackers and improving each time (while also getting a shedload of cash to spend elsewhere): https://not606.com/threads/potential-dagrosa-takeover.390192/page-6#post-14919459
A nice late little Christmas present. Hope Solak and Ankerson have got a decent little camera for our Wembley appearance this year.
All I know is we have been told the powers that be have been careful in who the new owners are . Only time will tell what the reality is .
new year, new start. feels very timely and hugely relieving. i was not concerned about our lack of spending but our borrowing without spending was a real worry. i really like the pedigree of this team coming thru brentford, there is some good football understanding there. now for that serbian serieA striker signing yeah? up the saints!
