Adam Blackmore, BBC Radio Solent's sports editor When Gao came along in 2017, it was at a time when the Chinese government had decided it was good for some of their businesses to invest in overseas sport. But three weeks after he bought the club, the Chinese government pulled the rug on their strategy of backing overseas investment in sport. So it is fair to say Saints have been limping along and basically making ends meet as there hasn't been too much investment from Gao, with his hands tied almost immediately after he bought the club. The model they have had for the last two years is something they will keep. They have been looking for a good partner to take his place and enable them to take the club forward, with the ability to progress and have more investment. Nobody knows how these new owners will behave but, on paper, I think this is really good news for the club. Not only because of their financial clout and their expertise, but I like their comments about being active and engaged owners. The club have been treading water for four years, but I think they can go a bit further now.
Alternatively Michael Eisner might get bored, Sports Republic could buy them and make them our feeder club.
I get get on board with that. Wasn't there a shipping company called Red Star Liners out of Southampton once?
All sounds very promising to me. I hope all the fans realise takeover doesn’t mean instant craziness in the transfer window. If anything I expect even more shrewd signings than before.
I quite like the sound of a war lord or gangster in charge even if it's only for a short time before he's arrested. I'm fed with being the soft touch in the Premier League, no longer would we have to take derisory offers from Levy. No longer would players turn us down to go to Leicester. “My Father Assured Him That Either His Brains Or His Signature Would Be On The Contract"
Blackmore saying it was at least partly KL that made sure , quietly in the background , that no staff lost their jobs due to covid .
White Star are the more famous due to Titanic and later Cunard but apparently Red Star did exist and operate in Soton too. Everyday a school day! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Star_Line
I refuse to realise this. I want to see comically big cheques being written, then lots of pictures of Ralph shaking hands with expensive players who all look a bit confused as to where they are.
