That’s fair, and as I say, I can see the argument from both sides. Maybe a new manager is just what we need, or perhaps it will be too much for the new man coming in, particularly if he wants us to play a completely different style. January is not the easiest window to recruit, so it remains to be seen whether we are able to bring in the quality of players that the new gaffer (or DOF) would want. We also don’t know that the any new signings would be ‘forced’ on McCann either, After all, I’m sure he would be happy to bring in a higher quality of player - I’m assuming we’re not going to be shopping in League 1 again! in any case, I’m sure Acun has a plan, he seems to know football and you don’t get to his station in life without some degree of intellect. I’d support his decision either way.
Any potential new signing would want to know who is coach is going to be and at face value Acun will want his person onboard to support prospective recruitment from day one.
They say McCann has the support of the dressing room, I wonder if today's lacklustre performance might be partly because the lads know it is possibly his last appearance?
I'd venture to suggest PT that players have been sounded out already and the ones we are looking at might not be on the radar of other clubs...
Here's a bold prediction for yer, early doors, City to get promoted next season. Just not sure to which league.
I’d disagree with both of your main points there. He has a squad of players he has (maybe) had a day in recruiting that fit within strict budget constraints. Yes, he picks the team week to week, but it’s hard to blame him for the overall quality of players we have available. As for your comment that he’d still pick Magennis even with an £8m striker at his disposal… well, just, no
Decent striker for a few season's at Ibrox, well thought of by the Rangers fans. Not sure if he's got what it takes to manage us at Championship level but those that choose to ridicule McCann and demand change will soon find out... Personally,I'd give McCann some decent cash and see what he can do.
I agree, it's the safer approach. The introduction of a proper DOF will dilute the influence a manager has on signings so it's unlikely that targets will change if Grant or Shota is the manager
People seem to forget the when mcCann had a good championship team, he had us knocking on the playoffs..... The last thing we need is total upheaval in January. Get the DOF in officially asap ( he's been working on his targets and plans for a while now anyway ) let grant take us through to summer with a few new body's that improve us, That way nothing is rushed and we can make sure any appointment is the correct long term one. I'd rather take grant for another Half a season to be in a much better position for the next 3/4 seasons, then move him on now and bring in someone that doesn't work and we are back to square one in the summer..... Just look what happened the last time we brought in a foreign manager with no English experience
Just imagine for one minute HT2 that Bowen and Grosicki suffered season ending injuries that season..... what would the excuse have been then...?... because its trotted out an an excuse infinitum... 'poor Grant, lost his best players'...
McCann has pissed me off from time to time but no-one can deny that the 'dressing room' is still intact and it's probably best left until the end of the season?? There are better out there but we are in no immediate danger and the new owner needs to tread carefully!! Might be the bees knees right now but things turn on one result with our fickle support.
Are you saying he didn't lose his best players? The excuse would've been the same,he lost his best players!
Probably the same reason as now....the players he has at his disposal are just not at a level to push us on. I'm really not sure on the point your trying to make if I'm honest. Any manager / team / squad isn't going to play at the same standard if they lose all their good players and are replaced by players way below in terms of ability etc. The blame their rests at the allams door not grants.... And as grant did in the champ ( when he had a decent team and had us knocking on the play offs ) he proved in league 1 last season that if he has a team/squad that can compete, then he delivers.... He won the league quite comfortable in the end. Grant isn't the long term answer for us, but the rest of my previous post still stands.
New owner....New players....New manager...NEW START......only way for me....I want a clean break from the allams..
I have absolutely zero idea on that unfortunately, my guess and I've got to really say it is a guess .. £4-6m. But Id love to see it more as would we all I suppose
The point I was making (not well admittedly) was that those 2 players had got us into that position... but long before they left the cracks were starting to appear.. anyway its moot.... you're either for him for him or against him. I have been for long enough and nothing will change my mind and you yours (rightly).. I personally think under the current circumstances lets have a complete new broom. Maybe a new manager might shock us all..
