Would make more sense. Probably the best #2 GK in the league for the last decade.

Yeah between him and Cudicni. Another keeper who should have been number one some where

That's always a possibility, of course. But if he really wants to play week in week out, there isn't much other option for him. Krul is a better keeper: and I say that with no disrespect for Harper or how hard he's worked when we needed him.

It's just the way of things I suppose.

Yep, I'm over it tbh. It isn't as if he is a vital part of our team - just a good servant

I rember the liverpool rumour but that is speculation you hear everyday, they didn't actually put an offer in. And at spurs he wouldn't of been number one, where as he was here. My point is how can we call him loyal when as far as we know he never turned down regular football, more money and a better club down to stay here like AS did?

I just think far to many people use loyal to often. Given was 'loyal' till a better club with big wages came along, so was enrique till the same happened! Loyalty is dead in football, no point even mentioning it.

As reluctant as I am to say it, I agree totally. Yes he's been with us for years and yes he has kept quiet but ultimately he's earning a decent packet (and has done for a while) for doing very little. I love the bloke but I certainly don't feel sorry for him.

Quite why at 36 Harper would agree to this demoralising move is beyond me. He's a millionaire many times over........just jack it in man. You've had a bloody good life as No2 keeper. Good goalie not great goalie. Fans talk of loyalty . He's a local lad who has never wanted 1st team footie anywhere or else for the years under Given he would have been off. Just wanted the cushy life .

Only if it's stated in the contract. Let's hope they do.

Great bloke and much underrated keeper. Should have shown more ambition when younger for sure but I can't hold being loyal against him. Hopefully he'll end up coaching here but I suspect his time is ending altogether because he was part of that now broken up players committee. Him and Smithy are the last ones left but they can't do anything with Smithy because he is having his cash. Its a shame but I support the decision to go with Krul. I do think he should be playing the cup games mind. I'll be honest, what I've seen of Elliott has left me very unimpressed. ****e against Forest, and the bits I've seen for Charlton weren't amazing. I think we have a dud on our hands, but lets hope I'm wrong.

On Harper's loan, Pardew added: 'It's an opportunity to show his wares. If he doesn't stay at #nufc, he'll get a top club.'

Pardew did say that Harper is the #2 keeper in the phone in on radio though, and that he would be who we turned to should Krul get injured.

Anyone else think the month loan could be to see if they sign him in January?

Sorry but that is quite a silly remark. To question Harpers loyalty is frankly stupid. He has been very very loyal to the club. He has had loads of offers throughout the years, certainly when Given was here. It doesn't need to be for a bigger club either. Any offer of first team football was a step up. But he wanted to wait his chance to realise his dream of playing for Newcastle. He managed it too and got a short spell as No.1. Its just Krul has come along and I'm sure Steve understands the decision even if he is disappointed. He'll also not have lost hope because Krul is young and might get in a rut at some stage. (I doubt it mind) I've met the bloke a number of times. He is as down to earth as they come, and he is Newcastle through and through. I'd also have to disagree with your assessment of Harpers ability. He is very very good goalkeeper and comfortably better than the guff we've had in nets for England in recent years. Yeah he is not a big personality and doesn't shout from the rooftops like a David James but he is ultra consistent. He's just ran into one of the best in the game (Given), and a future world star in Krul. You're just plain wrong on both counts for me but each to their own.

I must admit I'd be surprised as he has several business interests here now but football comes first I suppose. Be a good move to keep him fresh and as Elliott can't be loaned its the right decision for the club.

Elliott's played for us and Charlton this season so can't play for a third club. Pardew knows what Harper can do at the top level so wants to use the cup games, where often the regular number 2 plays, to test Elliott out. Harps wants game time so heads to a team in the top half of currently the best league that's allowed to take on players. One month, with a recall. At the minute it's a non-event. The problems will come when/if Harper and Forster decide to up sticks for regular games and Elliott remains unproven. (saying that, I feel the quality of Given and Harps has led our defence to be a little complacent, now a rookie is in they've had to step up). The last twenty years we've had two able keepers. In the world of a goalie it definitely is a case of two's company three's a crowd.

The difference is that Eliott is being paid circa £5-10k a week to sit on the bench whilst Harper is being paid 30-35k a week to do the same. it's no surprise mike wants him out. he's probably on more than krul at this moment in time and his value is decreasing with each year he gets older

Er no not ever! And a very different scenario to Harper. That is only about picking up money, Mr Adrian Heath confirmed it
