Always seemed a Yorkshire **** to me but, seeing as it's Christmas, rip I suppose.

He was hardly Brian Rose.

I remember he had a pop at Botham once.

That's right, beef with Beefy!

Botham wrote an article in response putting up both their stats with the headline "Shut Your Trap Illy!"

That's all I remember about him.

Never saw him play but remember his commentating when cricket was on the BBC

I find cricket commentators are more honest than football ones and he was no different

enjoyed his voice in the background

He led Leicestershire to a first County Championship in 1975 ... I lived on the next street to Grace Rd and, although not big cricket fans, me and my cousins bunked over the wall for the final session ... ground was heaving ... nice pitch invasion at the end ... happy memories. Was 15 years old.

 

Had no idea. And at 15 too.

 

What did he die of? Did he watch a cricket game?

 

Probably embarrassment at the Ashes result.

 

Did England lose? Unless things have changed since I left England... Isn't a loss just expected? Nothing to be embarrassed about, it's just a fact of life
