It isn't unusual for a player to be so "pumped up", that reason goes out of the window, unpunished simulation can do that. Hopefully it is a lesson learned.

Exactly, keepers get far too much protection. I remember West Ham getting a goal against Liverpool where Liverpool were angry - they thought Allisson had been fouled. He wasn't but that was more of a foul than Forster yesterday.

I think ‘be aggressive with their front two’ was a pre-game tactic, given how Salisu and Beddy went about their work. The right tactic as well, but Salisu took it that little bit too much to heart.

One of the Spurs players being interviewed afterwards thought that goalkeepers had far too much of an advantage because they were allowed to catch the ball.

Just had a look at the highlights, looking at the challenge on Fraser, the player had his back to him and looked out of control, but that was after bouncing off a Saints defender and wasn't a deliberate attempt to foul Fraser, who made no appeal and looked surprised at the decision. We got a lucky break there in my opinion. Makes a change.

We have always allowed goalkeepers to catch the ball from JWP's corners! That's why we seldom score from them.

Ralph said as much in the post match interview. Said that the plan was to go man for man and because Dele was dropping so deep Salisu was coming way out of the back three to challenge him early. He liked it, but said he was disappointed with his decision to challenge in the area for the pen

I still don’t see it as us getting lucky for the FF ‘foul’. That’s just rare consistency in refereeing. Goalkeepers are over protected and contact like that on a GK is consistently given as a foul. Not saying I agree with the over protection of goalkeepers. The amount of times I’ve been annoyed when a foul has been blown for even less than the ‘challenge’ by the Spurs player is crazy, but at least by and large referees are consistent with it. So I really don’t see it as a special decision that went our way, that decision was par for the course.

I think the offside was worse than the Forster foul to be honest. Looks on to me!

    I love Ralph, fantastic point

It was not a good decision by Salisu for sure, especially in all the circumstances. But in his defence, he's learning all the time and sometimes big mistakes like that can be a fantastic moment for the future, in that, he will learn from that I'm sure.
It was a phenomenal performance and in fairness MOTD almost recognised our team's performance but I've become a bit blased to the pundits like most of us I think. Danny Murphy did seem to see two teams on the pitch and was decent enough to give our team their name! I just watched it and felt proud that this performance was right up there with many previous great Saints teams. Well done lads!!

I once worked with a plastic Manc who ended all his football statements with the line “and that’s a fact, not an opinion” <doh><laugh>

It was always **** of course ... and that’s a fact

The BBC review says that Saints fans won’t have any complaints about the 2 disallowed Spuds goals

They’ve clearly never been on this forum <laugh>

The offside decision is more controversial just because of the inconsistency of offside decisions. We had so many go against us last season that were that tight or even tighter or you know just plain wrong when hands and forearms made us offside... And I’m not going to pretend to know what the rules have changed to this season, but thought they were giving a wider margin for error/benefit of the doubt or some such leniency whereby such tight offsides are not ruled out. It was technically offside but the confusion around the rule and how it’s being applied is what makes it controversial. On another day that goal would have stood and so even though yes he was offside (just), we were lucky because the inconsistency of offsides means that could have easily stood.

In all of this it’s worth noting that if the rules had been applied correctly in Liverpool v Spurs then Kane would not have been on the field yesterday.

Not really proof of anything. Any team would gladly take a goal under any circumstance. And so would be furious if a goal is chalked off for almost any reason other than really clear offside or very very obvious foul play - like punching it in the net

...and for once Murphy wasn't suggesting other teams our players should sign for.
