Wasn't Istanbul once known as Constantinople - and therefore one of the the birthplaces - of modern Christianity? Wasn't St George Turkish? Doesn't the Q'uran revere Jesus of Nazareth (as opposed to Christ the redeemer in Christianity) as a prophet? Theres loads of reasons why Turks of any persuasion might want to down-tools for an equivalent of a bank holiday to spend with family and friends - especially when thalf the rest of the world is doing the same.
Precisely, not sure if you meant to quote me or Barchullona with this as I agree with what you're saying. Saying he's using Christmas to spend time with his family is fine, doesn't need an analysis on his religious background.
I thought the bridge decided whether you lived a European style life or a Muslim style life. I might be wrong though. Also, I thought we was getting sold, but I might be wrong on that too. Also, I don't believe all this **** I'm reading about new managers or players. How would the interview go. Well Mr potentially new manager we would love to offer you the position of team manager of Hull City but only if and when we buy the club. Potential new manager answer would be "oh yes Mr Bossman I will be happy to wait around for ****ing ages until you sort the deal". There must be over 1000 pages of have we been sold and when and to who and for how much. I promise not to post anymore puns especially as it pisses people off In return is there any chance that only facts can be posted and not speculation about the sale or where his jet has landed or refueled or what he had for dinner and at what restaurant. It's all needless crap (like the puns Kemps) He's having Xmas with his family in Turkey. Wow that is certainly ITK info. I'm having xmas with my family too lol. Glad I've got that off my chest Dear Allams, Could you please hurry up and sell the ****ing club. Happy new year.
Explained by these guys back in 1953 with their hit record. This was recorded in 2014. Name change to Istanbul was in 1930.
Santa was actually from Turkey, and would still be there if the Italians hadn't stolen the corpse and took it to Bari, where he lays in a tomb, leaking body fluids, which they bottle and sell to tourists.
Just because they are shut doesn't mean they are celebrating Xmas. If a place in this country closes next May for a few days it doesn't mean they will be celebrating Eid. Don't get me wrong, I think the Turks are a very friendly, hospitable people. They cope with levels of hardship in a lot of areas of the country which would have people in this country in meltdown.Just hope some of the hardliners there don't spoil things.
Constantinople was built on the site of Byzantium, a fishing village founded by the Greeks. It was originally named New Rome before renamed Constantinople in honour of Constantine. It was originally primarily on the European side of the Bosphorous.
You know they don’t celebrate Christmas as we do, but many people of other faiths in this country and abroad share gifts and have family gatherings on the day. It is possible that Acun will spend Christmas Day with his family and he might describe the day as that to his Christian friends and business contacts.
FYI for no reason whatsoever, other than to add to the tally, there are 4 Christmas day fixtures in Turkey. One kicks off at 10.30 am. Time for a postmatch tizer. Which reminds me that City played Huddersfield on Christmas day in the 60s, then played them away on Boxing Day. Now that's what I call festive football.
