I think that loans are a really good idea in that situation and Rodon's an improvement for them.

Given that Conte sees him as Dier's understudy, the best thing to do would be to loan him to a team who play a back three

    Don't suppose Brentford fancy him?

If Conte wants rid I’m good with it…no matter who the player is

if Conte wishes to replace Ndombele with a can of Heinz Beans

    im good with it

To be fair, a can of baked beans is better at tracking back than Ndombele

Heinz Beans > Ndombele, Lo Celso and Doherty.

Apparently Doherty’s been told he can leave in January.

    *pretends to be shocked*.

    Me too.

Same goes with signing players, as long as Conte wants them and they’re not hand picked by anyone else at the club then I don’t care about fees or wage demands (the club will only spend what it can afford anyway).

If Conte think they’ll improve the team then he needs to be backed

I feel a bit sorry for Doherty, to be honest.
Played well in a role that we didn't use, destroyed his confidence, then he got covid.
Bring in two managers that use wingbacks and the first refuses to play them.
The second comes in, prefers basically anyone else there and then boots him out.
Still hasn't moaned or complained publicly, so I hope his next step works out for him.

I can imagine the team bonding session where it occurred....

Oi Doherty ... back in line"

I don’t think he could shine at Spurs in any role but yeah he has had a bit of bad luck.

Does beg the question though, why did Spurs sign him when they were never going to play to his strengths? He’s not the only one who’s been signed and then not played in the position/role that they looked their best in either.

Sure, nothing against him or Rodon or Gil, but they weren't what the incumbent coach wanted or needed. Conte's known for preferring small squads and he's not using these players either, so they should go out on loan (at least), particularly if we go out of the League Cup.

RB and RWB aren't completely foreign positions to one another though and Doherty will have joined knowing he was going to be a RB under Jose. It's been weird watching him too as he hasn't even looked like a RWB playing RB, very little attacking intent or the ability to cross the ball... or to do anything actually if we're being honest.

I agree he's been a model pro, got the typical Irish humour too judging by his appearances in Spurs media videos so must be good to have around the place.

The biggest issue for me with Doherty is how he requires at least two touches more than either Emerson or even Aurier to do anything. When he receives the ball he takes a touch before deciding to run or pass, and when he's in the opponent's third he takes a touch so he can look up before deciding whether to cross or take the ball down the line

Obviously a hell of a lot of this can be put down to his confidence being shot, but on the flip side the fact that muscle memory seems to have deserted him is truly baffling

One slight issue with the Florian Grillitsch rumours: the source linking him to us says that he's German

The 26 Austria caps he has says that he isn't, at least not since 1945...

Doherty played quite a strange role with Wolves, though.
He wasn't just a wingback, he was virtually an inverted one, which is pretty unheard of.
Here's a clip of his goals and assists at his previous club:

Very little in the way of crosses from deep and lots of touches in the box.
Plenty of headers too, which he definitely hasn't been getting on the end of with us.
He's generally not played well for us, to say the least, but it's not all his fault.

    His hair cut is.

Dear god, the one he's currently sporting makes Trippier's look tasteful.

Obviously needs to be getting in the box more given
he can expect crosses in from left to right.

OTOH tis difficult to comment on his productivity in general
as you would need reams of all the 'failure' footage
(the times he tried to pass a defender to go down the right,
galloping runs towards the box that resulted in poor crosses etc) .
