A mate went to see Bryan Ferry a couple of years back. He said that his voice was pretty much shot. He was sorry he went.

 

It would have been more fun, but in doing it the way he did, he walked away with the moral high ground, and left the frump and the wets with her looking stupid.

 

I saw Ferry when he supported Streisand a couple of years back. I wouldn't say he was terrible, but his voice certainly wasn't up to filling the expanse of Hyde Park. Kris Kristofferson, on the other hand, was immense.

I'm 43, so not particularly old, but I know what you mean.

Vivian Stanshall and Keith Moon used to make surreal jokes for their own amusement. They would enter high-priced men’s clothes shops asking for a pair of strong trousers. Of course the keen to please sales assistant would find a pair robust trousers such as double elephant cords for them to try out and Moon would take hold of one leg while Vivian took the other. Then in a ferocious tug of war they would rip the trousers into two and throw the ruined pieces onto the floor in disgust and storm out of the shop complaining that the trousers were poor quality and lacked strength.

Now Moon and Viv had a one legged friend who they would keep loitering around outside and after their departure this fellow would hop into the shop and up to the distraught sales assistant and politely ask for two pairs on one legged trousers.

EU in crisis: Hungary teams up with Poland to force hammer blow to European Commission

Mr Orban, who is preparing for an election in April where his party could lose power to a new coalition, claimed that European law was leading to the "disintegration of traditional communities" and right of people to a homeland.

He went on: "Ultimately, in terms of fundamental rights, Europeans today have no right to their country, their language, their culture, their family and their God.

"The decision of the Constitutional Court of Hungary takes a stand against this.

"It takes an upended human rights system and sets it back on its feet.

"It is in this light that we should read what the decision says about the powers of the European Union and the sovereignty of Hungary."

And in a direct threat to Brussels, he added: "The Hungarian state has a duty to prevent serious violations of individuals' identity - even if such violations come from a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union or from deficiencies in the EU's exercise of power.

"The traditional social environment of people living in Hungary must not be allowed to change without a democratic mandate and oversight by the state."

Hungary has now joined Poland, whose constitutional court concluded in October that domestic law had primacy over EU law in October.
