If this happens I am very excited. We never know how it will turn out but it’s hard to think of a better prospect.
The Star is also reporting that he’ll bring Man U’s strength and conditioning coach too.Looking good! https://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town/martyn-pert-set-to-join-itfc-staff-8570654 Also from The Star: “Former Town manager Jim Magilton, now the Irish Football Association's elite performance director, has said of McKenna: "He is a meticulous planner yet every session is spontaneous. Nothing is set in stone. He adjusts the session to how the players are and gets what he wants out of the session. Everything is linked and game related. Nothing is for show – it has to be about the game." Trying not to get my hopes up too much!!
How I wish magic Jim would join him here. That would signal the end of the Evans era and a bright new future. And he would bring that wisdom and maturity that this capable young man may need.
I know McKenna is far from a household name, but I think it speaks volumes that Mourinho, Solskjaer, and Rangnick all wanted him on their coaching staff. I just hope he is surrounded by the right people to make that transition into first team management. If he gets Magilton in as an assistant/advisor, that would be a beneficial move and great PR!
He's come in as a manager but let's face it in reality he's a head coach because that's what he's been a coach ad Ashton has put in place all other parts of the team already. I'm pleased in some ways we've gone down this route because some of the names being mentioned were just uninspiring considering we'd just sacked a manager of Paul Cook's pedigree. McKenna seems to come with very good coaching credentials and will certainly support him however.... i do have some slight concerns (as always): - He's got no managerial experience, you can be a good coach but you need to motivate a group of players - Man United under the team he was a part of have played very similarly to us so far this season i.e. they have a talented squad but look like strangers and don't know how to press - We have an egotistical CEO who has just sacked a very experienced manager (after this appointment let's face it he was a dead man walking), got 'his' team throughout the club and appointed a rookie manager. Ashtons power in the club grows day by day
Big big fan of Jim, as you can tell from my profile picture but I feel that due to his personality he'd be the character who needs experience next to him not to be the one with experience.
