Brentford boss Thomas Frank told mid-presser that there are now 13 positive cases amongst players and staff Would imagine that puts this Saturday in serious doubt
Unsure if this is a good or a bad thing if the season has to break again it will definitely benefit Newcastle. And likely Leeds as well like before and despite the extra rest I fancied our chances at the weekend
Notice it is always conveniently quoted as “players and staff” and numbers are not always given. I’d be really surprised if the majority of the games called off so far couldn’t have actually gone ahead but the sides didn’t want to field weakened teams. That and having to close the training ground in the build up The Man United one was especially fishy as so few details were released but the implication was that the case number wasn’t that high at all
It will be the PL as well not wanting to put out a weakened product. If half the first team are missing for one team due to Covid then they wouldn’t want the game to go ahead as the game may lack quality/be too one sided
If they do, they can't pause it for long. Next season is starting earlier than ever due to the World Cup - it can't be put back like it was last time. That's the issue.
Can’t help but notice, in several games recently, goal scorers celebrating with the fans. The authorities/clubs need to be stopping that, if they want the season to continue, because it doesn’t matter how careful they may be in their training bubble etc, jumping into the arms of a supporter completely blows all the planning out of the water.
Yes, but you can't shut things down just because of the rate of infections. You will just prolong the epidemic by doing that. Postpone the games you have to so clubs can stabilise their situations. Some clubs have obviously lifted too many restrictions on their training sites. Saints seem to be managing it well. So no reason why other clubs can't either. Unless hospital numbers shoot up I think we've just got to get on with it.
We would still let in a late equaliser even if those 13 were all players. Another Premier League record for the collection.
I know it’s the wrong thread for this discussion, but the infection rate is the highest it’s ever been, 50% above last January’s peak. Yes, the new drugs and treatments, and the vaccines of course, are minimising deaths and hospital admissions, but many people are experiencing symptoms like a bad case of flu, which is still dangerous to a lot of people. If it takes another break to help control it, then **** the Premier League and **** the World Cup, which shouldn’t be happening anyway.
As over here in the Netherlands there's a noisy bunch of inconsiderate arseholes who put their social agenda above community responsibility. Some of them play football for a living. Others are politicians. King Willy has had to apologise for flouting regulations by holding a party for his daughter's 18th. It's the rich wot gets the pleasure and the poor wot gets the blame.
Is this the second game Brighton and Brentford have had cancelled ? Starting to pile up. Burnley as well?
