I only saw most of the second half, as the link was playing up a lot today. I thought Eaves looked a totally different player to the donkey he seems to be in the times I’ve seen him play previously, is the reason having another player alongside him? Thought McC at the back was excellent, along with Greaves who moved forward in support very well, reminded me of Harry when he used to run with the ball, that double player tackle v QPR still high up on my list of his best moments with us. Midfield looked good too, disappointing goals to concede, but I think a point isn’t a bad result.
I honestly don't see where the love for Pearson comes from on here. The man's an utter **** who's very lucky to be in a job at all. He can **** off to **** off land. The **** him
The ball is at their end of the pitch, hold onto in the corner, waste time ect instead we lose it goes to the other end and throw 2 extra points away. It’s another point, keeps the unbeaten run going but should have been three.
He is but he’s also a very experienced manager who can scrape a result. I said earlier we’d regret not making the most of all our pressure in the first 30 mins. Could’ve and should’ve killed the game off in the first half. Decent point though.
Whoever is in charge of corner set-up, marking and tactics needs sacking, the amount of set-peice goals we have conceded this season is criminal. Today, we saw 2 average Championship teams battling it out for a point each. We don't look like a relagation team now.
Just got home, gutted, feels like 2 points dropped to me. Once again soft goals conceded. Another game of could av/should av taken earlier chances. Admittedly, in 2nd half when they made their subs, they were getting on top & the game was there for the taking, but as soon as we made ours, taking off the totally ineffective Dumb & Dumber, we looked more threatening....even with Eaves, he made our 2nd goal. Magennis & Wilks looked so poor, most definitely the weak links when others were busting their guts, we def looked more threatening when Eaves and Smith replaced them. Thought McLoughlin, Longman were outstanding, and the energy of the Honeymonster and The Doc were brilliant. Baxter looks like he has been watching Mr Angry videos of Allan McG, very vocal. I suppose a sign of how far we’ve come when not happy with a point, still unbeaten. UTT, onwards & upwards.
It could have been all three, but I wasn't too disappointed, We have made a habit of hanging on in the last few games, sitting back/ last ditch tackles etc, we had to come unstuck sooner or later,
The thing is, I don’t think we were sitting back today, we had a couple of breaks that we didn’t finish off &/or didn’t just take it into the corner to waste time. Having said that, there was a bit too much time to be wasting the time like that. The second goal they scored was just unlucky how it ended up falling to James, initially losing the ball near the half way line, Greaves’ header not being cleared fully & then missing the block.
Conceding the second so late on is just inexperience at this level. Good thing is, we’re complaining about dropping points due to a few honest mistakes, whereas over a month ago, we were complaining because we looked hopeless in every area of the pitch. The lads always give 100% and I’m content with how we’ve been playing and approaching games recently. I’m disappointed but not too disappointed, if that makes sense.
Is there any love for Pearson ? Most City fans seems to think he's a bit of a **** I thought he did a decent job for us but then just ****ed off to Leicester making him a bit of a ****
Hull City boss Grant McCann told BBC Radio Humberside: "It was a good response from us from conceding in the second half to get the second goal. We're absolutely gutted to concede so late in the game. It almost feels like a defeat. "But we have to understand where we are. It's been a good response from the group over the last six games, but we are just disappointed with that goal right at the death. "It's a good finish from Matty James, you have to give him credit, but we should do better. "I don't think there was much in the game all afternoon. I thought we had some good passages of play throughout the game and they had some good passages of play." Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol: "It was a poor game - two sides who really struggled to get the quality going, and we were wasteful. "I've been critical by saying we lose games too readily, and at least we got something out of it, but some of our decision-making and some of our quality at times let us down. It was a frustrating afternoon. "The second goal we conceded is a goal that's so avoidable and it's frustrating. "We must be a very difficult side to watch for our fans. We've scored two goals away from home again and ended up with a point, so we're not firing on all cylinders."
Thing is whenever you hold it in the corner it only ever lasts a few seconds before the ref finds a free kick to give, usually to the defending team, and then you've just given them the ball back. Unless you've got the quality to pass them to death like England did to Denmark in extra time at the euros, I don't know that trying to waste time like that is really very effective at all. I'm more bothered about the 2 on 1 break we wasted with Docherty and Williams. Looked like we passed it too quickly and wasted it. With Docherty's running power I'd have liked to see him take it further and open up more space for Williams to have a free run when he did pass it. Always find it really frustrating seeing us waste a break like that.
