If that's the case then the price of EVs would have to drop massively to be affordable to average Joe. Which means now wouldn't be the time to buy them. Petrol and Diesel will be around for ages yet
Kia Niro comes in diesel or electric and the cheapest electric model is only about £4k more than the cheapest diesel. The prices are falling quickly and he'll save that £4k on fuel and servicing. Mileage is a bit lower with the entry electric model but its fully charged at the start of every day. China is about unleash smaller cars to us and their costs are smaller than European models. I wouldn't buy a new diesel/petrol car if I could help it. If he is going to get a diesel/petrol then hire it and then give it back when its up. I know petrol and diesel will be on the roads for ages due to second hand drivers but for new cars I would seriously think carefully about going electric.
How much does it cost on top though to have a charger put on your drive, garage whatever? Guessing people living in flats or without a drive/garage can't do it, and there's not that many charging points around in general. I'm not really sure about any of it they're genuine questions, I haven't really looked into electric cars properly. How much cheaper is it to run an electric car compared to diesel?
What's a guy driving a £700pcm motor doing living in Consett? Reminds me of some of the Mexicans i used to work with, 1 in particular drove a brand new lime green Camaro, lived in little more than a shed
That's the advanatge of PCP'g it now. Didn't want to get lumbered with a diesel in 2-3years, when I am sure their resale value will be ****. As it happens most of the cars are holding their value pretty well atm because of the supply chain issues meaning new ones are hard to find. Definitely going electric next time but waiting to see what's available then.
Cars are a ****in money pit. Currently driving a 100k+ miles 13 plate mondeo diesel estate. 50mpg, 30 quid a year tax, can get my two dogs, the kids and the missus in with room to spare. Gonna run it until it dies. Think my next motor will be a van as the kids are now adults, the missus has a car so I'll just need summat I can get my dogs in, my fishing gear in and I can hoy my bike in the back.
Nissan Micra £650 drove that thing whining at the top of the limiter all over the country, often 3 in the back off to a rave. Never quit
Mine lasted 2 years of my driving. I realised it was all over when I was on the M1 around Sheffield and I looked behind and couldn't see anything for smoke.
Tbh I was quite late passing my test at like 25, so I'd been working and had a decent full time wage at the time. I missed the whole buy a banger for a few hundred quid thing that many of my friends did at like 17/18
My bro in law had one of them aswell. Unfortunately the engine went (it wasn’t old) so had to replace it. The engine that was. I think he was just unlucky.
Teslas look odd. They don’t look like an expensive car. I’m looking into hybrids mind. It has to be practical too.
There’s a bit of me that cries tears of self pity when I see the £s that some can afford monthly just for a vehicle… I’m not homeless, or in a bedsit, or unemployed so I’m not complaining. I really like this forum and just about everyone here, but now I feel like my old diesel Kia Rio will always mean I’m left standing in the corner nursing a warm Becks blue while the real men knock back chasers, talk politics and slap arses that pass them. Then they’ll all want a lift home from me and they’ll take the piss all the way - horrible way to end the night.
