We have a fairly old Potterton combi boiler that was in the house when we bought it. It's currently doing it's annual routine of giving in as soon as the weather turns. The wife is pregnant (due in the next month) so decided to bite the bullet and replace it next couple of weeks. When you speak to gas fitters they all seem to have their favourites and slate the others. I know a lad who will put one in for me next weekend, which is good for us in terms of the imminent arrival. It's an ideal logic max c30, 10 year parts and labour warranty and he wants £1800 to do the boiler swap, chemical flush and commissioning. Does that sound about right in terms of the price and does anyone have any experience with the boiler? He swears by them and says he's can't stand Worcester bosch, but you ask someone else and they'll say the exact opposite. It's all very confusing! As long as the house is warm and water is hot I'm not bothered about the brand.
Not sure about the Logic. But I had a Baxi put in by a lad I know recently. He said that there is not much in them all, and as many give this guarantee, which is conditional on a proper annual service, he says they all more or less do the job. Until the eco fascists make us have noisy, inefficient air heat pumps that is. We'll all be wearing three layers of clothing, waiting for the wind to pick up before boiling the kettle and chopping trees down for the newly installed log fire.
I have an Ideal Logic and can't say I'm overly impressed with it. It's 2.5 years old and had 2 parts replaced already. Ideal used to have an iffy reputation (I worked in the industry in a previous life) but they seem to be better these days. Personally I'd always go Baxi or Worcester Bosch - had the later in my last house for 12 years and didn't have a moment's bother with it, even though it was a new boiler put onto an old system (which can cause issues without a powerflush)
Generally Worcester are most recommended boilers and the engineer i use (and trust) is a registered Worcester boiler fitter. However an Ideal boiler and tank is sitting in my garage atm the fitter (Colin from South Shields) has tested positive for Covid19, so its not getting done till next week. I asked Colin why not Worcester but he said the Ideal one is better for what I need. Colin is about a grand cheaper that British Gas. As for your price...it seems reasonable a smallish one, mine is more expensive.
British Gas will put a boiler in for 50% of their normal rate and it will still be a grand dearer than getting a decent plumber to do it for you.
I got mine 5 years ago of British Gas Although paid neck end of 4000 I’m happy Most important thing is you must decide which is best for you Condensed or combi Only you can make that decision there is pros and cons for both However who fits your boiler is also your choice to decide
Dunno if this is any use to you but you may be able to qualify for a free boiler :- https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/boi...r-grants-can-i-get-a-free-boiler-a1OOC7R27kYS
I've got a 'Main' boiler but I believe this is part of the Baxi group but under another name. Last time we had someone out they recommended a Worcester Bosch "they are class, they look like an iPad" he said. I told him "it's in the loft so Im not really bothered what it looks like mate". The price you have been quoted plus the 10yr warranty sounds like a good deal to me, I'm like you; hot water is hot water.
We have an ideal logic 35 out in as standard by persimmon in our new build. That would put most off, but it's been spot on in the 3 years we have been here
I've had a Baxi and was told the same it lasted 3 years . Had 2' Ideal Logic since . One had 2 year warranty and broke after 2 and a half year and the other takes ages for hot water . Next time will get a Bosch or Wiessman
We have had a Worcester Bosch for over 20 years, annual service totally reliable. However it is not a combi. Good luck with your choice, I would source the boiler yourself and get a good independent plumber.
