The SuperStadium Management Company (SMC) has introduced an enhanced stewarding plan for Hull City matches at the MKM Stadium, to reduce disorder and improve safety at the ground.

This plan follows a successful trial in collaboration with Humberside Police, in response to a sharp rise in anti-social and violent behaviour by a small minority of home supporters following fans returning to the stadium in August 2021.

The trial saw additional stewards deployed in key areas of the East Stand, to engage with home fans to stop migration towards the away supporters. In addition, intelligence is being actively shared with Humberside Police in order to identify people whose presence at the stadium on matchdays has been primarily to cause trouble and incite disorder.

Stadium bans have been issued by SMC, and Humberside Police are taking further action against a number of individuals.

This activity is in addition to ongoing work to prevent disorder by away supporters in the North Stand, and is also supported by engagement work to ensure Hull City fans conduct themselves appropriately at away fixtures.

    A spokesperson for SMC said:

“While the perception has been that more stewards in the East Stand looks heavy-handed, the reality is that overcrowding and anti-social behaviour in certain home areas of the stadium had reached a point where we were facing the very real possibility of severe sanctions by the local authority and our regulatory body, the Sports Grounds Safety Authority.

We have been speaking to longstanding supporters who have stopped coming to games because they didn’t feel safe. It’s vital to us that everyone feels they can come to the MKM Stadium to support their team – especially those with young families.

Reports on social media that this was in response to flags and other such rumours are simply wrong. This is a practical solution to a very real problem that was starting to have a big impact on the stadium, staff, supporters and ultimately, the football club.

Where we can, we engage with people to try and explain the results of their actions. It is always our intention to use sanctions such as stadium bans as a last resort.

Our message to home or away supporters who want to use football matches as a way to behave inappropriately, violently or generally in an anti-social way, is: Stay away, football does not want you.”

Supporters visiting the MKM Stadium can expect to see an increased stewarding presence, with more bag and ticket checks throughout the match. The focus of the SMC is to create a safe, enjoyable matchday experience and a thrilling environment in which to enjoy football. We owe this to our valued fans.

Laughable. Or it would be if it wasn't so pathetic. Hull gives the impression it is city with a small town attitude where the police and others can't handle things dealt with easily elsewhere.

It's really mental this. My membership is in E3 so I can't take a mate with me until they sort it out. I've got a mate who buys tickets now and again but now he can't unless he goes somewhere else on his own, so he just won't.

It's such a classic Allam, small-time thinking approach to a problem.

Hopefully once the takeover is sorted the grown-ups will find a proper solution.

Have longstanding supporters really stopped attending since August because they no longer feel safe, or do I smell a large stench of Ehab bullshit?

Makes me wonder if they are really so close to going (or gone but don't want to announce it) why bother?

Unfortunately even after the Allams are gone the SAG and the incompetents at Humberside Police will still be involved. Have they ever been to other grounds? The MKM is a haven of tranquility, less fans stood up than elsewhere, more segregation between fans...Recently there have been cases of people ejected for being in the home ends, a breach of ground regulations. We were told to respect people who were in home areas and had fans defending them saying they had paid their money so were entitled to be there. Meanwhile our fans are ejected for giving a sideways glance at someone 50 yards away separated by rows of empty seats and lines of stewards and police. One lad was given a banning order because the police said "he was generally having a lot off". Never seen that one on the statute book.

I think it was mainly the Sheff United game that's prompted it all. When they scored their 2nd goal it went a bit daft, few people tried to run towards them, one guy got through and started swinging punches on his own, few people chucked bottles both ways.

While most of that may or may not be true, this is the SMC.

True. But we all know what the SAG and Humberside Police are like and they will still have an influence.

Far worse happens at other grounds without the reactions, or rather overreaction, there are when a minor scuffle happens at the MKM.

I witnessed more rowdiness in the ticket collection zone at the home game v Birmingham than goes on inside the Stadium.

That was 3 pissed up Brummies collecting tickets making a nuisance of themselves...Security said nothing,I told em to get to **** out my road as I was in a hurry,I'm traumatised and may not be back:emoticon-0102-bigsm

This is a total overreaction, which to a large extent can just fuel animosity towards stewards etc, which could make matters worse. As SW3 ChelseaTiger said a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Exactly this - so at a match 3 months ago, one guy got through (yes one) - but 'an increased stewarding presence, with more bag and ticket checks' remains in place.

Pete, who's head of the SAG, is a perfectly reasonable bloke.

This letter stinks of Ehab, it's his normal overreaction and pointless meddling.

It's the classic football thing isn't it. Rather than focus on dealing with the problem with the individuals involved, just treat all the fans like criminals and introduce blanket measures. Wouldn't happen if it wasn't football.

The SAG said the West Upper is so steep and high that just standing up there is dangerous so away fans couldn't be located there as they stand up, that could result in a surge, people toppling over the edge and carnage. The police objected as well. Maybe our Ferenbahce supporting new owner will tell them not to be so silly. Their ground is like a cauldron an hour before kick off and more raucous during the warm up than anything we ever see.
