Sadly this Xmas party scandal will be yet another issue for which BJ and his slime-bag cohorts will end up not being held properly accountable for - the only thing they are good at is being entirely teflon shouldered. The apathy in the country that allows them to remain in power, and allowed Brexit to happen will prevail I fear.

Im not sure actually, I mean they will remain unaccountable to us but I can see the 1922 Committee getting twitchy feet.

If they decide that this is a big enough issue they will happily bury Johnson to try and get rid of it.

The Conservative party will then however return to normal behaviour behind the scenes.

If the current government becomes unable to get further Covid rules through Parliament due to Tory rebellion I can see them booting Johnson.

I'd go along with that. This is just a bunch of unashamed chancers with whom corruption, lies and deceit are everyday companions. They've taken it to another level, history will judge.

I forget - do they even need to get approval from parliament ? Isn’t the talk that they are just going to announce Plan B today ?

I think they can announce it and basically bypass debate by restricting the time available, but I don’t think they can enact it without it being voted through in the Commons.

    Could be wrong though.

Probably throwing another dead cat on the table to stop people talking about the rule breaking.
It’s what they do when their backs are up against the wall.

That’s the sacrificial lamb then, note there was time for a puff piece remark about the PMs leadership in that statement, damehood when?

I mainly just noticed that it was a “tearful statement”. Where the tears necessary ?

If she is really apologetic and really wants to atone for her behaviour, maybe she could confirm that the party did go ahead and present us with a list of the attendees.

I have to say that I always thought that Boris would be brought down by his own and that it would be sooner than most people think. There are now rumours in The Times of a second Consersative Pary Christmas party. It strikes me that the press and back benchers are both incensed and there does seem to be a sense that the tide has now turned against Boris.I don't think he will be PM by the summer.

I think that the people in power have absolutely no morals and a total disregard for the people they represent. There has always been an element of the Conservatives having their noses in the trough yet Boris's gvernment has taken this to new levels at a time when people are dying from their mismanagement. Regardless of what your political persuassion, the current incumbants are demonstrably unsuitable for the purpose of governing the country. I will make another forecast. I think that once the Conservatives are out of office, I can see Ministers and even perhaps the PM being brought before a court to face criminal charges in association with the fiasco of manging Covid and how contracts were placed with pharmaceutical companies. The future enquiry will make the one into the Iraq War look mimiscule and I can see Johnson being in very hot water indeed.
