but some didn't sign contracts knowing team mates are on double or triple the money and if others did once they became important to the team they demand rises .
I don't follow this sort of thing avidly so maybe it happens all the time, can you give me any examples of players kicking off over their team mates getting big rises?
i don't follow it avidly either but that is one reason well regarded players end up leaving on free transfers as the club won't give them the wages to keep up with player X .
I think we'd all love to keep Salah, we'd probably all love a team full of the best players in each position. It's not just about existing players then asking for more, it's also about potentially signings wanting more to sign too. Also, it's about getting value for money for the team and what generates the best return. Is giving it one player (Salah) better than spreading it over a couple of players? If VVD, Alisson, Fabinho or even Trent (not seem him mentioned but he's got to be up there!) all asked for more you could probably pay majority of a team with that increased outlay! What if Salah were to suffer a serious injury after signing an improved deal? There are lots more variables than; if he gets more, others will want more. Reality is, the FSG model doesn't allow for a vast wage that Salah wil be asking for. Do they break their model for a top star or stick with a tried and trusted method? Edit; and we all know that FSG model includes buying young players with a potential high sell on value, allowing the initially investment to be recycled.
The contract has come at an awkward time really. Would you pay salah half a million a week now, definitely, would you still be happy paying him that amount at 36, Sat on the subs bench because he can't last 90, or can only play once a week? It's a massive amount of money to invest in a player at the wrong end if their career.
I think he'll leave. He's got to leave eventually and I think FSG will cash in whilst thre asset is at its peak. Then again, I said the exact same thing two years ago too (for all three forwards) so what do I know.
It depends how you look at it. I'd say in that scenario, they're leaving because they can't get what they want irrespective of what anyone else is earning. For instance, I think Wijnaldum was more saying 'I'm worth x amount to you' than 'I want the same as *insert name here '. At the end of the day we just see this differently. I've never been of the opinion that a player should dictate the wage structure but I've made an exception for Salah.
Wonder if could get creative. Maybe a lower weekly wage each season but increased bonuses for goals and trophies etc.
nobody knows really do they. It could be about the length of contact, wages, bonuses, image rights….really, who knows? Ultimately, it will play out over the coming weeks….and if it doesn’t, we will lose him for a lot less than he is currently worth - see Mbappe situation right now.
Theres always another player lads. Ex players are soon forgotten and jeered at (suarez, torres, owen etc) It's the way of the world.
indeed. Reality is that from my recollection, very few ever leave us for bigger and better things. Suarez, Masch, Alonso spring to mind but many more failures than successes. Truly hope that it can be settled and Mo realises what he has here….but if not, good luck to him and we go again. As you say, it’s the way of the world!
To be fair when we’ve sold those, they’ve been to better teams where we haven’t been one of top clubs in the world etc. Right now we’re in that top elite group of clubs and shouldn’t be a stepping stone for world class players to move
Yes we are one of the best teams in the world.....but we don't pay like the others, do we? For me, it's the area where we will always be weaker under FSG and let's get this straight, we are only one of the best teams in the world right now because of one man.....and that isn't Salah. Without Klopp and with our budgets, we will fall down the pecking order within a couple of years.....so personally, i'd be offering the money to him first and keep him for as long as we feasibly can.
Liverpool are keeping an eye on Paulo Dybala's contract situation in Italy with the Juventus star yet to sign an extension ahead of his deal expiring this summer
This ^ without a doubt. I'd be kidnapping his dog right now if I were FSG. I really want Salah to stay, but if he doesn't then ok - I'll be disappointed, but I've seen enough great players come and go over the years. Nobody was wetting themselves in anticipation when we bought him and it's not as though he was special since he was a lad in the way most other top players were. Klopp has been the major instrument in him developing into the player he is, and it's come late in the day, relatively speaking. The next exceptional player is always in the pipeline somewhere, and we won't even know his name yet. Salah is one of the best players we've had, and he's absolutely on fire atm, but no player is bigger than the club - and the long-term stability of the club is of paramount importance. Regardless of what any of us think of FSG and their budget, it is what it is - so we have to work within that. We will offer him whatever we can afford, and if that's not enough then so be it. Bring on the next one.
Reading bit on sky which bit confused about. Says that Salah is the 5th highest paid footballer globally. Surely that can’t be right? Says that was top earner until vvd signed new deal and figured around 300k. quick Google says that kdb, Ronaldo, de gea, Grealish, sterling, Kante, pogba, Auba are all on more than him and are the top 8 earners in the prem. So no idea where this info is coming from. Does show though, if he’s watching those players get over 300k a week, he deserves as much as them in that regard
