John Miles, the writer and performer of the classic song Music has died at the age of 72.

I had his first album, Rebel, when I was a kid which also had the hit Highfly on it.
In later years he moved to America and was Tina Tuners musical director, often performing with her on stage.

RIP John and thanks for the memories <rose><rose>

Slow Down was good, as was Remember Yesterday from the Manhattan Skyline album (I believe).

I must admit not on my known list but anyone backing Tina on stage had talent, thoughts and wishes with his family..

Am I wrong didn't he have connections with Smiley Miley or appear on one or two Radio 1 roadshows?..... just rings a bell and I could be totally mistaken.

I've not heard that one I must admit. I have tried to occasionally follow his later career in recent years, but he didn't seem to have a website.

All I did know was that he'd moved to America and was still involved in music. I wasn't even aware of the link to Tina Turner.
Maybe he didn't crave the limelight.

In 1976 I was in Blackpool when City played there on their way to promotion to the top flight.

I was in a pub packed with hundreds of City fans when his track music came on, the place went absolutely mental when the chorus cut in.

Funny how something like that remains with you into old age.

RIP John Miles if only for the above memory.

Ah those were the days of the rock operas.
    RIP John.

I’m sure he wrote a couple of other really famous songs - I’ll think hard for a few hours before asking Google….

An absolute prog rock classic, even more so live with an orchestra and choir. I'm sure he could have done more in the same vein but chose a different way forward.

    RIP John, an exceptional talent.

Yeah I was sure that he wrote songs that other artists made famous and I'm sure I've got some in my vinyl archive.
STILL not giving in to Google.......

Unless you meant for other people ?
Let us know if you discover any

And on the subject of music, did anyone see the Alan Hull (Lindisfarne) documentary that was on BBC4 on 26/11 called Lindisfarne's Geordie Genuis ?
    It was excellent

As a lover of the genre of flash mob music having been caught up in one in Vannes in France that was just heart warming.

I found this on youtube and it differs from all others of this genre in that the person whose song is being performed is actually in it.

RIP John Miles I believe this is a very fitting tribute.

Thanks for posting this Jiffie - I'd forgotten how utterly brilliant that track is - made even more brilliant by the 'flash' setting
