What taking the lead and then sitting back allowing opposition total control?....mmmm I can't remember it quite being played out like that

Well of course you don't, IMHO that is exactly what happened and also during that period we only won 5 out of 18 games before he was sacked. During the next season we also surrendered around 8 to 10 leads or drawing positions.

Well IMO it wasn't an obvious tactic by the manager, unlike what we seem to have now.

OK, I disagree I see it as a symptom but hey ho only the manager themselves can confirm or deny.

Also the high press has to be organised, it doesn't help if midfielders are caught out when a move breaks down along with the wing backs ahead of the ball leaving us with 2 at the back.

One thing that presently does boil my piss is not having at least 1 player on the halfway line when defending corners or free kicks.

I agree high press does need to be organised, but for me it's better to try and control the game than sitting back enabling the opposition to play their own game...especially at home......Away, the tactic is a little more understanding...........IMO.

I agree with your last comment, especially if we hoof rather than have players comfortable at the back to play it out. Would need to be someone able to hold the ball up or a player with pace!

When DaSilva plays he would be the ideal candidate for that, if we had one player on the halfway line they would have to have 2 players back to cover him.

strange game football the best player in the world or even team can make 1 slip, a miss kick, come off the head wrong get a bad decision... or a good one in reciept of the bad one and win ...against the form book [ likelihood they should lose ]
and we see it as played cr** or wrong way or wrong players or wrong team build up ... :emoticon-0129-call::emoticon-0145-shake :emoticon-0138-think

That's true but what are we supposed to call it when the same player continues to make the same mistakes, I give you Vyner and Bakinson for openers.

Vyner is a strange one for me, gets caught wrong footed numerus times and is quite often left for dead, but does have agility and ability to play out quite well and pushing forward....has been better of late....As for Bakinson, frustrates the hell out of me at times, movement either good or dreadful and his distribution so often lets him down....he's young and learning, but I think I'd prefer if he was brought off the bench rather than starting as it becomes a bit of a habit giving the ball away and breaking up creativity when trying to get a grip on the game.. IMO we have better :emoticon-0105-wink: but best left there!!

Vyner is a strange one indeed, when we were under no pressure in the first half he did what was needed, but as soon as we are under pressure he is a disaster waiting to happen. He is rarely close enough to his man, he is turned with ease and as was proved in 2 games running, when being manhandled by a big striker instead of being strong and holding his ground ala Kalas and Baker and even Atkinson, his answer is to get in front of his man meaning a slight nudge and the striker is away, he also has a habit of ball watching when defending set pieces. He made 3 maybe 4 poor mistakes that we were lucky were never punished.

Bakinson too often for my liking does not break into a sweat to try to cut out passes or block shots when he is close enough to do so. For Sheff Utd's first goal nobody covered themselves in glory but his part in the move was certainly the final nail that allowed a simple pass to reach Brewster. Somebody on Saturday on this thread said "does Bakinson ever tackle" and I have to agree with that.

Vyner is 24 and Bakinson is 23 years old and both should by now have ironed out their inconsistencies, again I cannot believe that it is down to lack of coaching, both of them when we have everybody fit do not feature much at all, but I suppose that at the moment needs must.
