    I think they've paid too much due to the (Hot) Fuss surrounding both players <whistle>

    One reason is because of the manner in which he left, yes we've all argued to the ends of the earth that Ashley sold him but Ashley is a **** and we all agree on that, but Carroll didn't have to leave and yet wanted out after being given the number 9 shirt; I could absolutely never cheer him on after doing that. Can you imagine if you had been given the chance to be Newcastle's number 9, you told all the fans you loved the opportunity and didn't want to leave, signed a new contract and then buggered off when Liverpool came knocking? You wouldn't exactly be flavour of the month, year or decade now would you? But more importantly, for football reasons - he wouldn't fit into our team and style of play now at all, not even remotely and I don't really rate him all that highly either, I was even of that opinion when we had him here - always felt like I was exaggerating a bit whenever discussing his potential.

    I'm still torn on the Carroll issue. Ashley clearly wanted him gone and was doing his all to force him out. Carroll probably just panicked. But he was Newcastle number 9! Any one of us would give anything for that.

    I don't think there's a single one of us who didn't imagine bagging a hat trick against Man United as number 9 when we were kids.

    <laugh> It's going to be more important than the number 9 shirt in years to come.

    Cheers, don't see it happening but it would be incredible if it did. I think I'm a rarity on here in that I'm a Newcastle fan that doesn't hate Liverpool! Though I can't stand Suarez, he seems like a right stroppy ****, I'd like to see you lads stay towards the top of the pack. The 4th - 7th places are going to be interesting as hell this season and based on what we've seen so far I'd say Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle would likely be the candidates for them, but in what order?

    Somebody told me after their disappointing start to the season they won't be buying any more players from the north east until they're back on top. In the mean time, Dalglish will keep telling Fenway Sports and their delusional fans that 'everything will be alright'.

    I just don't rate Dalglish as a manager at all to be honest. With Liverpool in the 80s he had an absolutely supreme squad that would have won the title with a gorilla in charge. With Blackburn he had a glorious strikeforce with the Premier League's best ever striker arguably in the form of his career which was an enormous help given the style of play that Dalglish tends to prefer. When he ruined Newcastle by purchasing much-hyped players who flopped, his old mates and flogging some of the best of Keegans supreme squad, it was clear he wasn't the amazing manager everybody figured.
    Now that he has paid the odds for Henderson, Carroll and Adam who are much hyped players, he is gambling in the same casino again. I'm honestly surprised he hasn't re-signed Ian Rush, or a bunch of Blackburn's PL winning players.

    I love that my post using 3 song titles from Hot Fuss actually prompted a genuine and thoughtful response. He really does seem clueless as to how to best utilise his players, who as you said, were all overhyped. He's loaded up on players who carried their respective squads (aside from Henderson, bias aside, I honestly was never impressed by him at Sunderland) but don't seem to raise eachothers game when on a pitch together.
    ...this is what the Kop wanted, and if disappointing performances like today's continue, I wonder how long it'd take for them to turn on him?

    Hah, sorry. I didn't even know what the hell Hot Fuss was until now. But yeah I think it will take quite a long run of bad form before they would turn on him, sort of like if Keegan's come back had lasted longer and we largely underperformed, we would have been reluctant to admit that he was crap.
    You're right, Dalglish plucked star players from newly promoted teams and brandished them as star signings for a team that is supposed to be challenging for the title. Essentially what he has done is bought loads of different tasty ingredients and thrown them all into the pan without giving much thought as to what he wants to make for dinner. Our recent transfer dealings have proven that you could get a **** load* of top quality players for around 50m-60m quid or instead you can buy Carroll, Adam and Henderson and try to sellotape them into your top 4 targetting team. Good luck Kenny.

    * around 15 Tiotes.
