How much time do we give him? OK, he's young, but then so are Idah, Tzolis, and Sorensen, and they have been given virtually no time at all (collectively perhaps the equivalent of three or four matches if you put all the minutes together). Sargent on his own has had the equivalent of about 12 matches and he still looks as technically incompetent as he did twelve matches ago. If someone can't control or pass a ball, he is not suddenly going to develop these skills if we give him more time. So if we want to play someone up top with Pukki, let's see if we can convert Tzolis from a winger or give Idah a fraction of the time that Sargent has been given. Yes, he did well against Southampton, but that was because his role was basically to be a nuisance and therefore didn't require any technical ability with the ball. In that role as hassler, he may have a part to play in certain matches and situations, but I can't see him ever being a striker or any kind of creative threat upfront. He's had his opportunity. Give someone else who can actually control a ball twelve matches and see what he can do. He can hardly do worse.
Nor is he suddenly going to lose the skills which have earned him international caps at all levels from U17 upwards. Jurgen Klinsmann, who knows Sargent far better than any of us, said when Josh joined us that he was making a mistake and should stay at Werder Bremen even if it meant spending a season in Bundesliga 2. It Iooks as though Klinsmann was right, and I see no reason either to doubt his judgement when he describes Josh as "one of the biggest emerging talents in US soccer".
Good striker if we could afford the circa £20m he's likely to go for, especially with Southampton showing interest and the Ings money burning a hole in their budget. Keinan Davis a more likely prospect if Villa agree a reasonable price.
Tend to agree Robbie. Is it the pressure the PL puts on players under the international spotlight every game? Idah looks a good player for Ireland but even there he's a long time without a goal. Sargent offers a lot more defensively and his interplay with Pukki is developing with every game, but he needs a goal to get going. Strikers thrive on goals and without them doubts creep in. It's a pity Rashica is injured, because he and Josh seem to have a good understanding.
DS on he Spurs result: https://www.norfolklive.co.uk/sport.../dean-smith-norwich-tottenham-hotspur-6306676 I agree that the result doesn't reflect our overall performance.
Nice bit of appeal to authority there, Robbie. If Klinsmann says he's good, how dare we mere posters say otherwise? If you think he should have spent a season In Bundesliga 2, should we send him out on loan to a Championship club?
Don't criticise Sargent Klinsmann thinks he's brilliant, he also advised him against joining us because the Premier league is too difficult for him. Both Idah and Sargent look woefully bad at Premier league level. Idah starts every game for Ireland and can't score . I was moaning about the lack of back up for Pukki for the last 3 seasons and Hugill Idah and Sargent are nowhere near good enough. I would rather play Drmic Dickson Peters or Kamara based on what I've seen.
A nice play on the very different meanings of "authority" there Gozo! And Klinsmann didn't say he thought Josh needed a year in Bundesliga 2; he said having to spend a year in Bundesliga 2 would be better for Josh than coming to Norwich (and enduring a second year in a struggling team trying to avoid relegation). Why so down and negative Gozo? The club parting company with Farke really seems to have got to you.
Werder are currently In 9th place and look to be staying there in division 2 . IF we get relegated the Championship is surely a more competitive league than that , he's also personally given himself a massive pay rise and playing in the most popular league even if he can't score.
DS has issued a message to the other strikers to step up to the plate and help Pukki score goals. On the evidence shown so far he will have a long wait. As others have stated Idah, Sergeant and Hugill (when he returns) are not up to the level required in EPL.
Didn’t realise there was interest in Brereton Diaz from other clubs. £20m is way out of our price bracket but then we have wasted at least £8m on Sargent. Can’t get excited about Davis unless he exceeds my expectations as Pukki has over the past seasons.
Whoscored gave O'dele a 5.8 rating yesterday. I can't figure out why. He was shading Moura on the right side when Moura got his goal; that couldn't be AO's fault. And he didn't score the tap in with a defender right in front of him. Can't blame him for that.
Given that our overall team rating was 6.16, Omobamidele isn't necessarily being singled out for errors any more than Gilmour, who also had a 5.8 rating. Those with higher ratings gained from offensive actions like Pukki's through ball to Sargent which should have produced a shot on target or Hanley's headers back into the Spurs penalty area during attacks. Williams was our highest rated player for both his attacking and defending actions for which he received a 6.7 rating. Each goal results in a .1 rise for each scoring side outfield player and .1 deduction for every conceding player. A serious error, usually conceding a goal, would cost the player a whole point like when Krul let through Leeds' winning goal and ended up with a 5.3 rating. Had he saved it, the rating would have been above 6.3.
Sometimes when I can't get a stream I follow the radio commentary and have WhoScored on for the lineups. The ratings start at 6 for every player then go up for successful interventions like a tackle or interception and down for misplaced passes, etc. You get a better idea of the ratings that way, but like any rating system it depends on the rater being unbiased. Generally though, I think they get it about right.
I've questioned their ratings at times in he past. And sometimes I flat out disagree with them. Overall they are as good as any I've seen if taken with a pinch of salt. If you ever need a stream, let me know.
Streams are erratic for me. At the start of the season they were superb, then I couldn't get a feed at all for three or four matches, but the last four have been superb again. The last one being the day I arrived back in UK.
