Personally don't want any old town boys, don't think any of them are up to the task. I honestly think that someone like Warnock would get us out of this League, maybe not long term but just appoint him to get us up. Yep and i will probably be slated for that
Funnily enough was just gonna suggest Hughton but...now that it's been suggested by the penis above....gone off the idea!!
Get the feeling we'll end up with McGreal for rest of season, unless there's someone at Phoenix they want to "promote"
I know Dyer is not in good health at the moment so it is not the right time for him but I would love to see a McGreal / Dyer double act or even for Peter Reid to take charge and get us out of this division. Ideally someone affiliated with the club already.
Not for me, nobody with Ipswich connection. We need an experienced manager, one that is not so ****ing rigid in his thinking!
Steve Bruce would also be another shout. I think he'd drop down to the 3rd division if he thought he had a canny chance of progressing a club.
I've always said i would like a foreign manager, different ideas, knows a different pool of players etc etc, still stick by that but not sure it will happen!
Trouble is, experienced and out of work usually either means out of touch, repeatedly failed elsewhere, or a short term fire fighting manager. Kind of hope we hop onto the German coach bandwagon, but who can we realistically attract in L1?
How about Lampard? Can't see him being given too many better offers atm, and he did say he was close last time out
My heart sank when I saw the barrow result. And in the context of big investment, big talk and a crap win rate, perhaps it was coming and those of us who wanted him to have another window had more hope than the CEO. He wouldn’t pull the trigger unless he knew there was a good candidate available, right? That’s management 101 stuff. But this is ITFC after all… Me; I’d be happy with Bruce. Genuine football man, good football, pragmatic with the players at his disposal and very good at coaching. Which might have been the glaring omission in cooks reign as we’ve discussed. Jeffers as defensive coach? That was always weird…
According to the statement they don’t have a replacement lined up. Steve Bruce. No thanks. We could do without yet another has been.
I completely stumped with this, looking at the management pool there is just no one who has the experience and philosophy Cook does who would realistically come here. Do we go for a dinosaur and just go for the short term gain or go for a young and up and coming manager who won't have the experience to deal with the domineering influence of Ashton and the pressure of being at a 'big' well backed club at this level.
I tend to agree with others who think we might for a change consider a foreign manager with experience, proven track record. Not the Ipswich way I know, but the pool of possibles back home doesnt really inspire us.
We’ve been ambitious in our player recruitment, so I’d like to think we’d be ambitious with our managerial appointment. Just nobody called Paul this time, please! The issue for me is that we’ve tried every type of manager recently, and - Mick aside, until the end - have all been disappointing failures. We’ve gone for the experienced managers (McCarthy, Lambert), the promotion specialist (Jewell, Cook), the big profile name (Keane), and the rising progressive type (Hurst). I’d avoid the usual ex Ipswich names (Burley, Dyer, Butcher), I’d avoid Peter Reid (Jesus Christ, when was he last relevant - and why is he still in the building?!), I’m not sold on Bruce or Lampard (doubt either would come to us anyway, particularly Lampard). I also don’t think Warnock is a good fit. If McGreal hits the ground and running and wins game after game, give him the job! It sounds like it’s got to be a manager who is used to working in a head coach role, working under a CEO/Sporting Director role. Judging by Cook and Norwood’s recent comments, they act like it’s an infringement on the manager’s duties - but it’s increasingly common in football these days and pretty much all the top football clubs work to that model. I’ve not given the management replacement much thought, as I thought Cook would be given another window. I’d be hoping for a manager that a) can pick his preferred assistant manager, unlike Lambert and Cook, and b) has a strong coaching staff to implement from the start. In terms of names, Chris Houghton (mentioned above), Derek McInnes, and Michael Appleton all appeal.
