A fine achievement indeed - even though they look destined for a heavy defeat. Shame his teammates couldn't back him up.

Some fantastic snooker being played by Zhao Xintong at the moment. Leads Barry Hawkins 4 frames to nil. Unbelievably accurate potting by Zhao. <applause>

Zhao eventually crushed Barry Hawkins 6-1.

The final between the Belgian champion Luca Brecel and Zhao Xintong should be a real corker. Some great snooker today by both finalists. <applause>

Pretty miserable start to the Ashes by Joe Root - wins the toss and decides to bat (amidst cloud cover over a green pitch), gets a duck himself and sees his team skittled out in 2 sessions for 147. Things can only get better ...................

Call the bloody thing off. This is the one time that the lads get a free pass from me.

It's an utter farce and the series should never have gone ahead.

A lamentable display all round. Team selection, especially regarding bowlers, questionable? Before the game had even started Root screwed-up royally by electing to bat, even though, as mentioned above, there was cloud cover and a green pitch. Would have given medium pace to fast bowlers like Broad and Anderson a real chance, had they even been picked! to play?

I am dreading the eventual outcome of this Ashes series, hope to hell I am wrong. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

That's more like it then, 220-2, only 58 runs back... We may not go on to get anything out of the match, a draw at best maybe, but the odds of getting something have drastically increased from the end of Day 1...

Slow going in the Adelaide Test today but that dropped catch of Labuschagne in the last overs of the first day wont help the minds of the England lads... Josh Buttler, you've dropped a sitter...!! Bugger...!!

I do love the pronunciation of Labuschagne. Maybe he's Australianised but it should be LAB US COCKNEY

    Lucky bugger isn't he?

We do love to shoot ourselves in both feet with selections. Foakes best English wicketkeeper by a million miles and we generally opt for Teflon Bairstow or Iron Mitts Buttler. Bonkers. We’re that short of decent batters Buttler could play as a specialist batsman.

I think this slow play by the Aussies is all part of a cunning plan to keep our boys out in the field for as long as possible, taking 3 days to score 550 runs meaning we can't even get past em in the time left...!! :emoticon-0138-think :emoticon-0126-nerd:

Or, we are bowling so well they can't get us off the square...:emoticon-0148-yes: :emoticon-0142-happy

I'm totally fed-up with it already. I'll have to take a 'tablet' if this goes on. :emoticon-0101-sadsm :bandit:

Only 4 English batsmen into double figures - that is quite simply not good enough.

England should just pack it in as a bad job and come home for Christmas. They are offering no challenge whatsoever to an Australian side who are hardly world-beaters themselves.

So there we have it - a crushing 275 run defeat. What next for England? The series already looks lost and you’d think pride is the only thing left to play for - not that they have shown any so far.

I just find it very strange that we are still asking the same questions, or not by the looks of it, when i to comes to the balance and set up of the side. We have batters who plainly can't defend, and when they can can't score runs, or can play shots and score well but can't reign it in when needed. A team of Joe Roots is what we need but alas he's on his own...!!

The bowlers, well i think they arnt as bad as is put across its just simple to me, they have no runs to play with so are constantly under the pump to get wickets...

If we can get away with a 3-0, 3-1 drubbing i will be very happy...!!

Do you think the modern game supports the development of test batsmen red? Seems to be ever more emphasis on limited overs cricket.

Yeah, absolutely Oddy, plus the lack of investment to the County game to prepare better tracks and better conditions to improve these skill sets. The best time to play 4-day cricket is in the height of summer but we stop playing that format to play the golden goose form of the game as it attracts the big crowds and more money...

The thing is we are world champs at that format so you kind of think we've got that right, which is good, but were failing at the Test stuff...?!?!

Just depends on what side of the fence you sit on...
